Position Overview The Toolroom manager is responsible for supporting the production and engineering departments with tooling for molds, dies, assembly fixtures, automation components, spare parts, and prototypes. This position supports internally fabricated tooling as well as manages external suppliers used to build molds, dies, and other tooling. This position is responsible for coordinating resources, managing the routine repair of tooling and equipment, and managing the building of new tooling within budgeted guidelines. Essential Functions Manages the fabrication of tooling in support of molds, dies, machinery, production activities, automation, and quality control within budgeted guidelines Plans resources and meets established project completion dates Manages projects for the Tool Room and Tool Design Implements and supervises adherence to all company policies, including but not limited to, safety, attendance, training, preventative maintenance, quality and the employee handbook Provides support to all areas of manufacturing including job cards and work order requests Assists manufacturing departments with process improvements projects Provides cost estimates for new molds, dies, and machinery Supervises the fabrication of prototype parts for engineering and operations evaluation Assists and supports Engineering Department on designs and automation concepts Performs supervisory duties including but not limited to; hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating, and rewarding performance Encourages open employee communication; provides positive feedback and professional development opportunities to employees, promoting optimal productivity Practices a participative management style that advocates teamwork Maintains Toolroom procedures, documents and records to maintain ISO certification Performs other duties as assigned Education Bachelor's Degree and/or commensurate experience with demonstrated leadership and management expertise and success Tool and Die Journeyman certificate preferred Experience Minimum 5 years of management experience Extensive experience in managing internal employees and external suppliers SolidWorks experience is preferred Skills Knowledge of tool room equipment, tooling processes and preventative maintenance practices Thorough understanding of the following machining processes: CNC Mill, Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, surface grinding, manual milling, lathe work, CAD and CAM applications Working knowledge of mechanical, automation and work cell style manufacturing equipment and processes Ability to interpret and direct work from CAD models, blueprints, and sketches Ability to develop and maintain a shop schedule that includes multiple projects, resources and deadlines using MS Project software Working knowledge of ERP and tool crib inventory management systems preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level Physical Requirements Requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, pulling, pushing, and feeling Requires eye/hand/foot coordination Requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Hearing Protection must be worn in marked areas – 29 CFR 1910.95 Eye Protection must be worn in marked areas – 29 CFR 1910.133 For persons wearing prescription glasses that are or will be worn as safety glasses, the glasses must be ANSI Z87 approved Steel-Toed Shoes must be worn in marked areas– 29 CFR 1910.136 Travel Up to 10% may be required
