Job Title: Licensed Funeral Director - Arrangements and Decedent Care Summary: Coordinates funeral arrangement conferences with families and customizes services to meet needs of client family and facilitates decisions. Engages in decedent care by performing the following duties. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Conducts arrangement conferences to learn and understand the family's needs and desires for the funeral services, and educates clients as to what is available to help them make informed decisions. Transports decedent from place of death to care facility. Engages in decedent care, including: embalming, disinfection, restorative art, cosmetics and aesthetics, dressing, and placing in casket. Adheres to established procedures of decedent care. Customizes service based on family's needs and desires, including appropriate denomination and requested details. Contacts pastor/minister to confirm service details, and verifies service procedures. Confirms final disposition arrangements with cemetery, arranges arrival time, and receives direction from designated cemetery representative. Assists family in developing newspaper notice and coordinates its publishing with the newspaper. Coordinates flower arrangements, prayer cards, thank you cards, register books, candles, crucifixes, and other materials with appropriate vendors. Arranges for pall bearers to assist at the service. Coordinates funeral service and communicates instructions and details of service to other funeral staff. Drives hearse or the lead car in accordance with established procedures. Directs employees and pall bearers with arrangement of flowers and placement of casket in hearse and at cemetery. Greets family upon their arrival for visitation or funeral services, and assists them as needed. Leads the funeral service at the funeral home, involving the introduction and conclusion of the funeral service. Makes phone calls to coordinate arrangements. You may be asked to perform transfer of Pets, as we are in the business of pet cremation and all aspects of pet cremation. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; inventory software; design software; Microsoft Internet Explorer; Mozilla FireFox; MIMS database software; and Microsoft Outlook. Education/Experience: Associate's degree in Mortuary Science from two-year college or technical school; and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
