Overview The part-time Clay County Literacy Specialist for the Literacy Alliance provides small group instruction for adult literacy, adult education, and English language learning for adults in the Clay County area. The Specialist will also coordinate with Clay County nonprofit partners of the Literacy Alliance to accept referrals, recruit volunteer tutors, and schedule classes hosted by the partner. Instruction would include multi-level classes, can provide individualized instruction to supplement group learning, and can develop follow individual student success plans. Sites of instruction can include any of the Literacy Alliance locations, sites of partnering organizations as well as classes in correctional settings. Responsibilities Provide in person instruction in multi-level classes in one or more subjects including reading, language arts, math, social studies, science, and/or English Language Learning. Conduct classes that can include all in person attendance or a hybrid component with students in person and online at the same time. Provide instruction with follow up or supplemental instruction on an individual basis in or out of class. Prepare lessons based on the learning goals of the students that includes formal and contextual material. Utilize Florida Department of Education (FDOE) adult education standards and resources to develop classroom curriculum and learning objectives aligned to student goals. Monitor, record, and evaluate the progress of students. Maintains student attendance and achievement records. Record student data, student communication, and other notes in the student database. Communicate with program participants and partners on a regular basis to increase retention, attendance and completion rates. Participate in community outreach and student recruitment efforts. Supervise volunteers assisting in the classes who provide support or individual tutoring. Work collaboratively and positively with partner organizations who may be hosting the class on site. Adhere to policies and procedures regarding class management and human resources. Inform other members of the team, including staff, program partners and volunteers, of any changes in the class, schedule, or other issues impacting the quality of the program. Support the entire team by working collaboratively, participating in quality improvement discussions, participating in the drop in learning lab, and being available as a substitute for fellow instructors whenever possible. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field and interest in teaching reading, language, math or English Language learning to adults 16 years of age or older. Experience, education or interest in conducting adult education, literacy, GED, high-school equivalency or similar instruction. Quality verbal and written communications skills. Focus on ethics and interpersonal relationships. Ability to work independently and in a team. Self-sufficient in use of office technology including particular use of Google Workspace and Google Classroom tools. Drivers license and reliable transportation.
