The Project Engineer supports the Superintendent and Project Manager on an assigned project. Primary responsibilities include the preparation, review of project submittals, requests for information (RFI), and project correspondence. The Project Engineer coordinates all shop drawings, reviews submittals, and expedites deliveries, assists with project cost accounting, and reviews owner and subcontractor billings. As a Project Engineer, you will be trained to successfully estimate and negotiate all change orders and direct the project administration. A Project Engineer must possess strong written and verbal communications skills and manage time effectively. A Project Engineer's responsibilities include schedule preparation /updating, pre-planning and resource forecasting for construction and other technical activities relating to the project. They are responsible for the performance management of vendors . They will schedule and communicate with subcontractors. They ensure projects are completed according to project plans and specifications. Project Engineer will assist Project Manager and Superintendent with inter-discipline coordination and overall quality control of assigned projects. Assists with the preparation and updates job budgets, change orders and cost reports for Project Manager’s review and approval. The Project Engineer will support the Project Manager and Area Superintendent in material deliveries, staff development, and overall project coordination. The Project Engineer plays an essential role in a successful project. Responsibilities and Duties Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with project related tasks. Work with Project Manager and Superintendent to identify plan conflicts and assist with conflict resolution. Maintain thorough understanding of contract documents. Analyze and provide input to resolve field construction issues. Prepare, review, RFIs, submittals, and project correspondence Maintain as-builts. Develop and maintain schedule with Project Manager and Superintendent input. Verify subcontractor and supplier invoicing against subcontracts and PO’s for accuracy, and coding invoices. Complete required tasks weekly: Labor and Equipment Timecards, Project Quantities, Force Account Work Orders, and collecting Subcontractor Daily Job Reports. Manage project closeout and obtain all warranties required for final acceptance. Maintain punch list with Superintendent. Review the owner’s pay estimate prior to management’s approval Identify issues early and work to develop solutions. Prepare all required information for presentation at project reviews. Assist Estimators with bid preparation, take-offs, and bid submission. Ensure company procedures and standards are maintained. Carry out job duties and responsibilities while maintaining MJ Hughes Construction’s values. Other duties assigned. Some travel required as needed. Job Requirements Qualifications Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering or comparable work experience required. Able to read and understand drawings and specifications. Proven competency in applicable construction math ie. quantities, volumes, basic geometry functions. Heavy/Highway experience preferred. Experience with bridge construction, grading, drainage, paving (asphalt and concrete), retaining walls, and all other highway construction scopes. Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Project. Able to learn new computer programs quickly. Previous experience in HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob programs, as well as Dexter and Chaney’s Spectrum preferred. Knowledge of Primavera construction scheduling software. Knowledge of Bluebeam PDF software Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail oriented. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate effectively via phone and in-person. Able to multi-task and work on several projects in various stages of completion. Strong understanding of Construction Quality Control methods. Able to work with a variety of personality types. Able to work independently. Positive Attitude. Good driving record.
