MITRE is seeking a Senior Manager and Deputy, MITRE Labs Finance , responsible for leading financial support to MITRE Labs. You will serve as the primary business partner for MITRE Labs and a trusted advisor and business leader across all levels of the MITRE Labs organization. The Senior Manager is also a direct manager and developer of people, leading all operations of their finance staff and supporting the growth of the broader finance community. As a Senior Manager , you will serve as the primary source of day-to-day financial management and business decision support to MITRE Labs Leadership – playing a key part in the business operations functions that maximize MITRE’s value to our government sponsors. You will also lead, organize, and coordinate various activities aimed at sustaining and improving the activities of the MITRE Labs Finance Team and transformation projects aimed at enabling new financial forecasting and support capabilities. The role includes interfaces with members of the C-Suite as well as Directors of the company and requires an individual experienced in managing executive level relationships and broadly experienced in finance management. The person will also be responsible for leading and supporting sets of supervisors and financial analysts in various MITRE locations. Roles & Responsibilities: Essential Job Functions: Serve as the mini-CFO for a MITRE Labs, including being the single “face” for Finance to all levels of leadership. The business partner is the “command and control” lead for Finance functions supporting the MITRE Labs, keeping a broad awareness of issues with program finance, invoicing, operations, and contracts affecting the customer. To do so, the business partner needs to develop strong relationships throughout the Finance organization, allowing for reach back and coordination across functions in the mission team. Similarly, the business partner is expected to manage communications with other Finance mission team stakeholders about happenings within the customer organization, giving heads-ups to other parts of Finance and escalating issues that may have larger potential impacts. The Business Partner is expected to develop a reputation as the chief problem solver for MITRE Labs, helping them to work through complex issues throughout the Finance organization, or even center-level operations issues with financial drivers or outcomes. At times, the business partner may need to work with the broader Sector Finance team, EBSOD, or other parts of the finance organization to highlight issues, brainstorm solutions, and drive an implementation that meets the customers’ and the Finance organization’s needs. To fulfil this role, the business partner builds and maintains a positive relationship with Labs stakeholders, becoming a trusted source of insight who will be considered as a member of the customer team, but who will “tell it like it is” when needed to resolve key financial issues. However, the business partner should take a fiduciary perspective towards their work with MITRE Labs, prioritizing good financial outcomes for the customer and for MITRE as a whole. This means that the business partner may need to educate or even push against the customer to drive better financial outcomes, while maintaining a positive relationship with key stakeholders. As part of that fiduciary perspective, the business partner must ensure strong operating financial controls and adherence to MITRE Finance policies within the customer organization. The business partner should work with MITRE Labs to drive long-term planning, working with the business to understand its objectives from a sponsor impact and capability perspective and help the business to align financial resources to support these desired outcomes. For major investments, the business partner should steer business case development, ensuring that these investments are financially sustainable under a variety of scenarios and that there are opportunities to shift decisions if sponsor interest does not materialize. The business partner provides a framework and data to steer forecasting and target setting, ensuring that MITRE Labs has a realistic and accurate forecast based on demand signals that minimizes potential risk while maximizing the customer’s ability to deploy indirect resources. In order to support this, the business partner should develop a strong understanding of opportunities and risks, using this knowledge to drive future forecasts, take action to insulate against risks between forecasts, and escalate potential concerns to Finance leadership. The business partner should ensure that the customer practices effective pipeline reviews, guaranteeing that pipeline data is accurate as it flows into financial forecasting tools. Business partners work with customers to develop annual indirect budgets based on MITRE Labs’ strategic priorities, working in close coordination with the customer’s operations team. The business partners works with MITRE to manage rates, ensuring that the blended wrap rate is in close alignment with the bill rate. If it is out of sync, the business partner may need to work to release/increase project reserves, reduce or increase indirect spending, or even reprice projects. The business partner provides regular and recurring management reporting and analysis, including flashes, business reviews, CFO reviews, and mid-month reports. In doing so, the business partner should aim to analyze and diagnose business drivers and variances to budget using various financial systems. Financial management reporting should focus on lessons learned and prioritize recommendations for leadership actions. The business partner should communicate financial results effectively with useful visual narratives, education on financial topics, and concise actions. The Business Partner manages MITRE Labs’ program finance functions, ensuring availability of tools, successful financial execution of projects, and coordination with the broader Program Finance team Like all MITRE Finance employees, business partners support business transformation and process reengineering efforts, leveraging their on-the-ground experience and relationships with stakeholders to drive requirements that meet business needs. Basic Qualifications: Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. 3 years of supervisory/management experience Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial professionals Ability to work with highly technical staff and understand scientific and technical topics Significant experience in a corporate finance management role, preferably in both government contracting and commercial environment Ability and experience in driving and executing on finance transformation activities Ability to understand the implications of decisions at a business unit level and the connection to the enterprise overall including impact to metrics (Rates & Price) Ability to partner with budget owners to determine appropriate prioritizations and impact of trade-off decisions on financial metrics Ability to lead and collaborate to resolve inconsistencies between the assumptions, beliefs, and processes in order to increase the likelihood of achieving business unit objectives Working knowledge of CAS & FAR regulations and their impact on MITRE’s business and finance activities Preferred Qualifications: Prefer candidates with an MBA Our culture is a tangible asset that endures through our people and leaders.
