This job was posted by https://www.vermontjoblink.com : For more information, please see: https://www.vermontjoblink.com/jobs/1200654 Job Title: Pipe Welder / Fabricator Job Summary: The Pipe Welder/Fabricator is responsible for laying out, assembling, installing, and maintaining pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for various industrial systems. This role involves welding, fabricating, and ensuring the quality of pipe installations according to specified requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Pipe Installation and Fabrication: Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial production systems. Align, position, and secure pipes for welding or sealing using appropriate techniques and equipment. Cut pipes to required lengths and weld them in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. Inspect welds for bead size, depth of fusion, and conformity to specifications. Read and interpret fabrication and piping isometric drawings, blueprints, and work orders. Welding and Joining: Operate GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding equipment to join metal components. Strike arcs, manually guide electrodes, and apply filler rod to produce clean, high-quality welds. Perform tack and full welds, repair cracked parts, and fill holes using advanced welding techniques. Preheat workpieces, clean weld joints, and grind or chip excess weld, slag, and spatter. Equipment Operation and Material Handling: Operate and maintain fabrication tools, machinery, and hand tools. Safely move and position materials using hoists, and other lifting equipment. Prepare material surfaces for welding, ensuring they are free from contaminants. Quality Control and Safety: Examine workpieces for defects and ensure adherence to specifications using precision measuring tools. Report defective materials, equipment malfunctions, and safety hazards to supervisors. Follow all safety rules and procedures, including the use of steel-toed boots and appropriate safety equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to continuous improvement practices. Qualifications: Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent, and 3 years of pipe welding experience. Minimum 1 year of experience as a certified pipe welder with GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW expertise. Successful completion of a pre-employment pipe welding test is required. Skills and Abilities: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting fabrication and piping drawings. Ability to perform quality welding techniques on carbon and stainless steel. Strong understanding of welding principles, metallurgy, and geometry. Capable of identifying materials and using layout tools like tape measures, squares, and levels. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, climb, and perform physical tasks in various positions. Capable of working in extreme conditions (heat, cold, humidity) and at heights. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Other Requirements: Valid drivers license with a clean driving record preferred. Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
