Sr. Software Engineer, Backend, Factory Software

We are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer specializing inserver-side software and backend development. You will join a small, expert team building server-side software for the systems that manufacture our cars, superchargers, and energy storage. The ideal candidate will have a passion for building world-class software and a track record of success creating scalable software systems. You will need strong software engineering skills, excellent interpersonal communication, and experience accepting and giving meaningful feedback on technical designs and pull requests. Responsibilities Consistently produce high-quality code that is maintainable and solves real-world problems Lead projects from requirements to architectural design to implementation to testing to production Mentor other engineers and ensure the team globally maintains a standard of excellent craftsmanship Seamlessly solve problems at many layers of the stack including debugging packet loss when communicating with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) to designing for data consistency inmassive globally distributed databases Prioritize building production-critical software systems that have sufficient validation, monitoring, and support strategies Interface with multi-disciplinary teams including Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain Take shifts on-call (no more thanonce every two months) Requirements Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability Minimum 4 year of working experience (preferred 6 years) Demonstrated experience implementing large-scale projects in Go, Java, C++, Rust, or similar Understanding of core aspects of backend development (including SQL databases, networking, and security) Familiarity with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and at least one modern frontend framework (React, Angular.js, Svelte,etc.) Comfortable with all aspects of rigorous software development and maintenance (version control, code reviews, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, etc.) Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to lead technical initiatives from conception to production Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) LGBTQ care concierge services 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $140,000 - $252,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
