Responsible for quality delivery of product to a customer base that exceeds $30 million annual expenditure which generally includes 25,000 truckloads and 20,000 LTL shipments. Required knowledge to handle transportation of goods via air, surface, and international modes of transportation. This position is the primary contact person for all transportation vendor relationships including negotiation aspects of carrier costs and service metrics. Accountable for freight budgets, cross functional department representation, efficiency and cost controls, interpretation of data with written and verbal presentations. The management role of leading a department that is focused on strategic planning, technology processes, problem resolution, vendor accounts payables, customer claims and communication with plant and customer service personnel. Travel to plants for interaction with plant managers DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Seek the best quality and cost opportunity to maximize shipping efficiency Selecting, integrating and leading others toward full optimization Foster relationships with carriers that prove beneficial in financial aspects, service metrics and increase awareness of industry trends Determine excess costs, implement measures to control cost and negotiate to produce the expected freight cost control results Cross functional representation from within the Supply Chain department. Bring forth ideas, concepts and change through presentations and communication to others including executive level persons Manage department activities including responses to customers, sales departments and other external groups. Financial accountability for payables, return product and claims Customer service interaction which includes freight policy development and conflict resolution with customers and vendors Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in logistics, distribution, transportation, business or similar discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience 5 years of professional business experience in logistics or distribution with a focus on providing the customer with the products they need when they need it. Prior experience in customer service-oriented role preferred At least 5 years of experience in logistics or distribution leadership which includes direct managerial experience 5 years of experience in strategic planning and policy formulation and direct involvement in transportation technology processes Direct experience in multiple modes of transportation A strong understanding of truckload, LTL, and international modes of transportation Extensive exposure to contract negotiations including the ability to build relationships
