Policy Advisor to work within a Government Relations practice group within a leading law firm monitoring federal and state legislative and regulatory developments that could be of interest to firm clients. The person in this role will write client-ready summaries of legislation and regulatory developments, attend, and report on hearings and provide other support as needed and will participate in lobbying meetings on Capitol Hill and at federal agencies, as well as in the Government of the District of Columbia. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Track legislation and other developments in assigned issue areas including, but not limited to, healthcare, tax, transportation, technology, and trade, and write daily memos for members of the practice group and clients. Monitor/attend and report on Congressional hearings and markups. Contact Congressional and agency staff to advocate on client priorities. Conduct legislative research and prepare legislative histories and other related documents and reports on issues of interest to our clients. Participate in client meetings and contribute to formulation of legislative strategy. Schedule, facilitate and participate in client meetings on Capitol Hill, including association and coalition “lobby days.” The position requires being listed on the firm’s Lobbying Disclosure Act quarterly reports as a lobbyist MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 3 years of experience handling legislative issue responsibilities (Legislative Assistant/Aide) on the Hill in the office of a Senate Republican We will consider someone that has a combination of House and Senate experience that totals 3 years, but the Senate experience should be the more current and at least 1 years Thorough knowledge of the legislative process and of Congressional organization and procedures Experienced in working with federal agency officials and staff. Strong research ability, including knowledge of research techniques and resources to conduct legislative research. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to write client documents with minimal editing required. Detail oriented with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Demonstrate a high level of initiative. Possess excellent planning and organizational skills Ability to work well in a high energy environment under time sensitive deadlines. Bachelor’s degree with strong academic credentials required.
