Food Scientist (Beverage) WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: The Food Scientist role is highly collaborative, working cross functionally with Operations, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and external partners. This individual will support research, development, and business processes related to food and product development, collaborating with contract manufacturers to optimize products across brands. The Food Scientist will be responsible for evaluating raw material documentation, creating finished product specifications, and overseeing commercialization from product creation to initial plant trials. The Food Scientist, Beverage will gain hands-on experience and monitor production processes, discussing findings with team leaders. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the development of new products across the Simply Good Foods line throughout all phases of product development-from initial bench development to commercial launch, while considering critical technical issues such as: food safety, shelf-life, scalability, processability, cost, nutritional and ingredient guidelines Help expand and maintain a 3 years’ technology pipeline that feeds into the product development pipeline Collaborate with all departments, external agencies and co-manufacturers to accurately define technology, new product and reformulation projects Facilitate in the development and execution of new products and product reformulations from bench to production scale Operate pilot UHT equipment in Broomfield lab for prototyping innovation and renovation RTD products. Create nutritional labels, ingredient statements, raw material costing and validation; Maintain product cost and design target reports Identify co-manufacturers for capabilities to provide current and future products and technologies, as well as, continually assess opportunities for improvement with product performance and expectations Develop ingredients and process specifications; Support Quality Assurance by ensuring finished product compliance Work on cross-functional project teams with co-manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, external development resources and internal teams from Marketing, Sales and Operations to Finance and Quality Participate in special projects and assignments, as required Participate in all other miscellaneous SMPL and departmental tasks, as required Attend and participate in departmental/cross-functional meetings KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES: Skilled in operating chemical and analytical tools and laboratory equipment. Experienced in aseptic processing and ESL beverage products. Background in formulating and manufacturing dairy or plant-based protein food products. Knowledgeable in nutrition science, ingredient functionality, and food product formulations, including process adjustments for co-packers. Understands product formulation for functional requirements and consumer benefits, including macronutrient composition, calories, and sensory attributes. Capable of making informed decisions and trade-offs in their expertise. Stays updated on industry trends and seeks external expertise for continuous learning. Defines success metrics to align efforts with business value. Understands broader organizational goals and their impact on performance. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: B.S with 3 years experience is required. Food Science degree / Engineering degree is preferred. Experience in CPG industry, beverage experience is preferred. Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment and may be stressful at times. Work may require sitting for long periods of time; requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and fax machine and scanner. In this spirit, we are excited to share the available compensation for this role, which includes a base salary range and an annual short-term incentive. We provide the base salary range, exclusive of benefits or additional incentives ( highlighted here ) . Additionally, this position is eligible for a 5% annual short-term incentive . If you are hired at Simply Goods Foods, your final base salary compensation will be determined based upon such factors as: geographic locations, skills, training, education and/or experience. Please keep in mind that hiring at the compensation range maximum would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
