Formulation Scientist

The Formula Scientist will assist with the development of best-in-class, science driven cannabis products for Curio Wellness and our licensed brand partners. Categories include, but are not limited to edibles, beverages, tinctures, tablets, vapes (Distillate/Rosin/ Resin), pre-rolls (infused and not infused), concentrates. Working under cGMP and State Regulations, the Formula Scientist will be responsible for benchtop rendering, prototype development, product testing and analysis to ensure stability, safety and efficacy. This person will also be responsible for maintaining the cGMP and 5S status of the Innovation Suite as well as ordering raw materials, packaging and all other materials for the upkeep and for new launches as necessary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Execute day to day development of benchtop samples and product prototypes for all product categories ensuring that formulations meet the brief, ethics of the brand, are stable, scalable, are in line with manufacturing capabilities and adhere to state regulations, certifications/ production protocols. Establish and implement testing protocols to evaluate product stability, safety, efficacy and quality. Analyze test results and adjust formulation as needed. Ensure timing and logistics for submission trials, ensuring that they fit within the demands of the timeline. Test new technologies and ingredients and support technology scouting/skunks work projects Maintain the Innovation Suite for cGMP and 5S qualification Complete required technical documentation Work with external consultants and experts as required Coordinate with cross functional teams including Manufacturing, Procurement, Cultivation, Sales and Marketing as necessary You will be responsible for not only daily operations, but for overall hygiene and equipment set-up, etc. and will be responsible for implementing best practices for formulation and development following industry and regulatory guidelines for Medical/Adult Use Cannabis, Pharma and Nutraceutical industries. As a member of the Product Innovation team, the Formula Scientist will have visibility to confidential information and intellectual property, and will be expected to use integrity to protect the confidentiality of this and any sensitive information not limited to but including formulations, recipes, processes and ingredients. Requirements 3 years benchtop/lab experience with a passion for developing best in class formulations Proven formula development experience preferably formulating cannabis edibles/ topicals/ tablets/ beverages/ vapes working in a cGMP environment/manufacturing space or experience in a field and/or operation that adheres to strict health and safety policies and procedures, in a regulated field producing products for human consumption, pharmaceuticals or health supplements. Strong knowledge of food chemistry, microbiology, and processing techniques. Strong and effective task-management skills and ability to multi-task, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality formulations. Attention to detail – ability to organize and maintain production/ formula logs and ingredient lot numbers etc. Strong understanding and ability to execute accurate batch calculations Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing and challenging environment Ability to problem solve and use critical thinking to trouble shoot issues Ability to work with cross functional teams including, Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, Cultivation, Sales, Marketing etc. A self-starter with an ability to complete tasks both independently and collaboratively as part of a team EDUCATION: Background in cannabis, food/beverage sector, dietary supplement or pharmaceutical formula development Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or related fields PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, use hands to finger or feel, use finger dexterity, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and lift a maximum of 25 lbs.
