During this program, you will use cutting edge liquid chromatography mass spectrometry methods to characterize proteins, helping to discover the next drug candidate to test in patients and cure disease. Develop methods for characterizing multiple antibody formats using prototype liquid chromatography (LC) columns, assessing sensitivity, resolution, and throughput. Characterize polyclonal antibodies by mass spectrometry (MS). Review scientific literature to understand existing methods in the field. Prepare and present research findings to the team. Gain a deeper understanding of analytics for protein research in biotechnology, develop presentation and research skills, and expand your biotech network. Co-author a scientific publication post-internship. What We Expect of You We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The bright and creative individual we seek is a collaborative researcher with these qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 18 years or older Graduated with a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university Currently enrolled in an MBA program for an MBA internship OR a Masters program for a Masters internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR Ph.D. for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university and completion of the first year of MBA OR Masters OR Pharm D OR Ph.D. program before the internship starts Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment Must not be employed at the time the internship starts Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship or co-op Preferred Qualifications: Degree concentration(s) in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or related field Proficiency in optimizing liquid chromatography gradients, setting up LC instruments (column exchange, solvent purging, etc.), and interpreting LC-UV chromatograms Preference given to candidates with experience using Thermo Q Exactive EMR model instruments, performing intact mass deconvolution, or collecting intact/native mass spectrometry data Knowledge of protein and antibody structure is a plus Ability to read scientific literature, write experimental plans, and execute experimental work Availability to be on-site in South San Francisco 100% of the time, with time split between the lab and data analysis depending on the project stage Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to document data and results in electronic lab notebooks, presentations, and reports What You Can Expect of Us As we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for your professional and personal growth and well-being.
