Supervisor, Laboratory Operations

ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking an onsite Lab Operations Supervisor to help oversee MSAT molecular and microbiology in Manassas, VA. This team focuses on developing and implementing advanced processes and technologies to enhance the production, quality, and regulatory compliance of products. Our ideal candidate will have prior lead or supervisory experience, manufacturing experience, and expertise in molecular biology techniques including PCR and DNA extractions. Bacteriology experience is preferred. As a Supervisor of Lab Operations, you'll oversee daily activities of functional lab units, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to schedules. Utilize your scientific and technical expertise to train and provide direction to laboratory staff, resolve problems, and mitigate risks. Additionally, you'll play a key role in vendor negotiations, implementing new lab services, and providing valuable input to support decision-making processes. ZR Responsibilities Laboratory Management and SOP Development: Direct and coordinate laboratory staff, manage inventory, and oversee cost control, waste reduction, quality, and safety. Work with lab staff to develop their skills, set goals, and capture their progression. Attend and lead staff meetings, and create, develop, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and protocols. Ensure effective operation of laboratory equipment. Study Design & Technology Transfer: Working with the group SME, coordinate the study design for new equipment, products, and processes. Facilitate technology transfer from R&D areas to the bioproduction groups. Oversee the designation of tasks and labor to lab staff on these projects. Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance: Ensure test methodologies meet quality standards and regulatory requirements, troubleshoot out-of-specification results, and provide technical input for internal and external stakeholders. Develop and evaluate new assays, review custom product requests, and compile data for key performance indicators (KPIs) metrics and reports. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years' experience, including 0-2 years' supervisory experience or equivalent experience. Expertise in molecular biology techniques, including PCR and DNA extractions, required. Bacteriology experience preferred. Previous experience with process development, process scale up, technology transfer and manufacturing. Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to direct and coordinate staff, manage inventory, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. Train new scientific staff and create user protocols. Experience with process development, process scale-up, technology transfer, and manufacturing. Benefits The expected salary range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
