We are building new processing capabilities around the world, and emphasizing emerging, innovative processing technologies, such as continuous processing, biotech platforms, and advanced data and control systems. Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) is part of the Lilly’s Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC). GPACE provides automation solutions through measurements, control, control systems, data and integration, and project delivery. GPACE is a technical resource for training, standards, and stewards of Lilly’s primary automation platforms. GPACE’s primary customers are global manufacturing, development, and Global Facilities Delivery (GFD). Responsibilities The Process Automation Design/Project Engineer will entail the following scope: Provide automation leadership for the design and delivery of major Capital projects and corporate initiatives with a focus on the Global Parenteral Network. Provide automation support to external/contract manufacturing. Manage system integrators and internal Lilly team members to deliver all aspects of Automation. Support key corporate initiatives such as life cycle management, Engineering information management, and cyber security. Evaluate new technology and innovation trends leading to the development of proof of concepts and sharing of use cases for application within Lilly. Drive automation governance and replication across the Drug Substance and Drug Product manufacturing networks for major equipment design, architecture, and Automation/IT systems. In addition, this role will work to optimize and improve project automation engineering approaches by combining technical and project delivery expertise, industry best practices, and engineering standards. Key Objectives/Deliverables Work safely and continually look for improvements to both people and equipment safety. Ensure safety is incorporate into process automation design. Process Automation Design – Provide support to manufacturing sites (including external manufacturing sites) and Global Facilities Delivery during project profiling and design. Ensure project design meets intended requirements, considers life cycle cost, and eliminates non-value add complexity. Use replication and best practices to optimize project cost. Project Engineering – Lead automation design and delivery of major capital projects. Provide appropriate levels of project execution support. Collaborate with GFD and outsource partners to ensure a successful Automation Project Management structure is in place to successfully deliver the project. Process Understanding – Understand the breadth of Lilly key manufacturing processes, from API through distribution, and of the process development lifecycle, from development through process retirement. External Influence and Benchmarking - Monitor and influence, when appropriate, changes in external codes and standards on Lilly’s behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly. Extract benchmarking information from academia and industry. Basic Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related science field. 3 years' experience in automation machine control, process control, or equivalent work experience in a related field. Additional Preferences: Experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or related life science field. Experience supporting automation activities in the parenteral drug product space: aseptic filling/formulation/equipment preparation. Minimum 1 years' experience in system integration design and delivery. Experience working with validated systems in a pharmaceutical environment. Demonstrated expertise in one or more automation platforms, preferable Rockwell Automation Systems Experience in automation system project delivery and major capital projects including schedule and cost management. Additional Information: This position will be based in Indianapolis IN supporting major capital project delivery. It is expected that significant travel both US and OUS will be required with potential for short term assignments to support project delivery. 8-hour days - Monday through Friday, overtime and some weekend/holiday may be required for project support. Travel: Domestic and International travel may be required (35%) with potential for more.
