Responsibilities:
Direct live and taped programming within format guidelines including newscasts, commercial production, and station promotions. Operate the board and assume responsibility for newscasts and other programs. Read, study, and research scripts to determine direction. Confer and collaborate with managers, crew members, on-air talent, and producers. Ensure all aspects of the program are complete before it begins. Plan details such as framing, composition, camera movement, and sound for each shot or scene. Establish the pace of newscasts and sequences of segments according to time requirements. Handle last-minute and unexpected changes during live broadcasts. Maintain high knowledge of equipment and notify the Operations Manager of needs and problems. Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day work of news production staff. Work as a team player and foster a spirit of cooperation with news and other departments. Complete other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements:
Previous experience directing live newscasts; 3 years directing/technical directing experience preferred. Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operations of television systems. Experience with Ross Overdrive, Multi-ME switcher, video servers, graphic systems, and DVE preferred. Some graphic design experience helpful. Ability to work effectively in a high-intensity, live environment. Proven leadership skills; prior supervisory experience preferred. Ability to work on short deadlines and in pressure situations. Flexibility to work alternate hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Physical ability to communicate and operate equipment in various conditions.
