teams provide diverse set of capabilities to enable Northern Trust Application teams and Business Partners in the areas of Application Architecture, Development Accelerators, Shared Services API for common digital functions and Collaboration capabilities. WHO YOU ARE Very hands-on Architect experienced in architecture and design and development of modern cloud applications. You are a thought leader, who is well versed with current technology trends. You are a team player with a can-do attitude and open for new ideas and collaboration. You have: A College or University degree in Computer Science and/or relevant proven work experience Hands-on software development experience using development languages and open source frameworks like Java, .Net, Spring, etc. Significant experience with enterprise architecture patterns and best practices Hands-on experience designing and building cloud-native applications using Pivotal Cloud Foundry’s Application and Container Services as well as Azure; AWS and/or GCP experience a plus. Experience using Kubernetes/Docker and container related tooling Experience managing infrastructure as code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation Deep knowledge of Architecture Frameworks like TOGAF and/or Zachman Strong technology modeling skills (e.g. UML) along with associated practices like Domain Driven Design Knowledge of software development methodologies and tools like Agile (Kanban/Scrum), and GIT, Jira, Maven, Jenkins, etc. Experience with DevOps best practices and toolchain/pipeline automation; Github and Azure DevOps preferred. Knowledge of the financial services industry and in particular, a broad and deep understanding of products and services provided by Northern Trust is a plus. Strong knowledge of security frameworks and controls Analytical/problem-solving skills, leadership/organizational skills along with ability to operate in dynamic environment. Strong understanding of nonfunctional requirements and SRE principles Ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders and mentor team members Knowledge of building solutions using Box.com WHAT YOU WILL DO As an Architect, you will partner with Infrastructure teams, Application development teams, Enterprise Architecture, Business Partners and Vendors to provide Solution Architecture and leadership to application development teams in the following. Strategy Creation of the Cloud / Technology Architecture Strategies Influence the strategy and vision of senior decision makers through articulated communications and presentations. Ensures alignment between Technology & Business strategies Roadmaps Delivery of the multi-year Cloud / Technology Architecture Roadmaps Influence project portfolios towards implementation of the target state Reviews investment spend to ensure alignment with target state and roadmaps Identify appropriate technical solutions that provide business value while mitigating technical debt. Mediate conflicting priorities to drive optimal solutions. Identify and escalates duplication of efforts, functional and technical redundancy, and enforces the use of existing firm-wide shared services. Cloud and Technology Architecture Analyzes the current enterprise architecture to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement using cloud solutions, strategic middleware, and optimized infrastructure Define and articulate architectural requirements around Cloud enablement, middleware, and infrastructure. Drive consistent usage of cloud and middleware technologies across Share Services Reduce excessive consumption of infrastructure assets across Share Services Conduct build vs buy technology evaluations Strategic Programs Support major programs from an architecture leadership perspective Blueprints Create fully functional cloud architecture blueprints for typical archetypes, e.g. Web, Microservice, Mobile, 3rd party app, etc. Enablers Enable the development organization by creating working examples Create cloud-related frameworks that instill all of the non-functional requirements in scope Define cloud delivery best practices Training technologists and provide project-based consulting/expertise Partnership Build strong relationships with key stakeholders. Liaise with the Enterprise Architecture groups Solve problems collaboratively. Acts as a subject matter expert on technologies and trends in cloud, middleware, and infrastructure architectures. Ensure that the applications delivered are aligned with Enterprise Architecture standards and patterns along with meeting non-functional requirements. Implement and help identify measures to improve applications stability and availability along with reduction in technical debt. Mentor Application Architects and developers in Digital Shared Services team and other teams. Ensure compliance with corporate standards related to Application Development (e.g. coding, security, interface management) and/or Production Service delivery (e.g. ITSM incident and problem management). Confirms that the artefacts/deliverables related to solution development, are produced as required by Northern Trust’s project lifecycle(s) and/or service management standards.
