Entry-Level Data Analyst

SUMMARY:
Our FEMA Preparedness team seeks candidates for an Entry-Level Data Analyst position to support projects. Our ideal candidate will be passionate about data management and have had experience entering, analyzing and summarizing data in a work, internship or project setting. This position is a hybrid position, and candidates must live locally as it may require infrequent visits to client locations throughout the National Capital Region.
Our entry-level data analyst will have strong analytic and organizational skills and will be comfortable working collaboratively in a small team environment with some independent tasks. They will be excited about learning and will have strong communication and problem-solving skills.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong analytical skills to identify trends and patterns in data, with the ability to organize and clean large data sets.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and conduct thorough research to resolve them effectively.
- Strong data visualization skills utilizing tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Excel and the ability to summarize data analysis into effective visual and written summaries.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional Excel skills.
- Exposure to databases.
- Independent worker who can manage multiple tasks while being forward-looking at future tasks under the direction of a team lead.
- Proficient in effective and professional communication, both written and verbal.
- Collaborates and works effectively with other team members and stakeholders.
- Organized thinker with strong attention to detail.
- Develop concise, clear, and easily consumable written reports, graphs, and summaries based on research and data analysis.
- Ability to prioritize workflow to meet all deadlines.
REQUIRED TASKS
- Analyze data sources, identify data gaps, recommend alternative data sources, and develop collection strategies to improve data quality, extract meaningful insights, and support decision-making.
- Provide facilitation support, note taking, and development of applicable briefing materials for data collection activities that include interviews, focus groups, and hot washes.
- Manage data in approved systems; code and categorize data using approved taxonomies. Support the modification and improvement of data management tools as required.
- Create vivid and meaningful data visualizations.
- Provide quality assurance and guidance on the development of data analysis documentation and reports including methodologies.
- Ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Assist the development of draft reports, case studies, presentations, and other documents for technical and non-technical audiences.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a data related discipline, mathematics, statistics, computer science, finance or economics (Other majors are acceptable with relevant experience).
- Strong Excel skills (regular use of advanced formulas and tools: XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, Pivot Tables, Name manager).
- Data processing skills using one or more data processing systems.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Preference is given to those with experience managing data in an emergency management context.
- Preference is given to those with direct federal experience including internships.
- Tableau experience preferred.
OTHER:
- Must be organized, positive, proactive, and results-oriented
- Must hold a U.S. Citizenship
- Must be able to pass a public trust background check.
- Must live locally to the Annapolis/ Baltimore and/or National Capital regions.
