Job Description
Job Summary:
Under moderate supervision, the data analyst will leverage large datasets from various sources to identify emerging trends, extract actionable insights, and support data-driven decision-making related to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee mission model. This role will be responsible for all phases of the analytics lifecycle, including data collection, querying, cleansing, transformation, validation, report creation, statistical analysis, and presentation of findings to stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to identify reporting goals, define strategic data questions, develop key performance metrics, set benchmarks, apply appropriate analytic techniques, and design thoughtful data products.
- Leverage data science tools, such as Python and R, to perform exploratory analysis of data to gain an initial understanding of new data sets and identify anomalous patterns and trends in the data, such as outliers, missing data, non-conformed values, and other data quality issues.
- Conduct diagnostic analysis to help understand the ‘why’ behind data trends and results.
- Write complex queries using SQL to extract and prepare data from multiple sources for data visualization and analysis.
- Create automated data pipelines to assist in data extraction, transformation, and storage for report creation, analytics, and self-service.
- Create compelling and informative data products using business intelligence and data visualization tools to effectively communicate data to key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports that track organizational goals for membership, attendance, and outcomes.
- Prepare data in response to internal and external ad hoc data requests.
- Develop and curate a single landing page for dashboards and reports.
- Assist Clubs with data collection by communicating requirements and due dates, providing data collection templates and tracking tools, delivering training on data entry protocols, and verifying that Club-provided data meets organizational reporting standards.
- Participate in required training for organizational, grant, and funder reporting.
- Provide organizational expertise on data reporting requirements for grants, programs, and organizational reporting.
- Monitor and maintain organizational data systems, including (but not limited to) Cayen, MyClubHub, and SQL databases.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications and document maintenance procedures, and participate in data governance efforts.
- Ensure data systems remain in compliance with state and federal law.
- Maintain close relationships with vendors to ensure organizational needs are met.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of data used for analysis by regularly and rigorously conducting audits of key data assets, including raw data and published reports.
- Develop standards for cleaning, de-duplicating, and conforming data to optimize reporting.
- Work with Clubs and departments to address data quality issues and ensure accurate, timely, and consistent data entry.
- Develop standards and procedures for data entry and data correction in organizational data systems. Lead monthly meetings with data entry specialists to provide ongoing training, support, and general oversight.
- Proactively participate in continuous improvement and strategic planning processes to advance the maturity of the data analytics program.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Social Science, or related field and one (1) or more years of experience in a data management, data analytics, or data science role.
Experience Requirements:
- Demonstrated proficiency with a programming language such as Python or R
- Demonstrated proficiency with writing SQL queries.
- Demonstrated proficiency with data visualization software such as Power BI or Tableau, including writing custom formulas of moderate complexity.
- Proficient understanding of database structures, relational databases, and star schema; experience with Microsoft SQL databases a plus
- Experience with Microsoft 365 apps, including Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, Docs, PowerPoint, One Note and Teams.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging descriptive statistics to gain an initial understanding of new data sets, discover potential relationships between variables, and profile data quality issues.
- Demonstrated experience conducting diagnostic analyses to help understand the ‘why’ behind data trends and results.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively convey analysis findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Able to travel to different club sites for training/data audits.
