Position Summary: The Head of Collection Strategies is pivotal in overseeing the library’s general collections. With strong support from the administration of the CSU Libraries, the Head of Collection Strategies will help further University goals, integrate the CSU Principles of Community into the work of the CSU Libraries, and foster a culture of innovation and inclusion. The Head of Collection Strategies provides strategic, flexible, and creative leadership for a team of professionals. In this role, you will manage a significant budget and make decisions to maximize the value and impact of our collections. You will set the vision for the Libraries’ general collection and will represent CSU Libraries in regional and national consortia. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections and Discovery, the Head collaborates across the library and will need to build and maintain strong working relationships with Acquisitions and Metadata Services, Research Support & Open Scholarship, Student Success, Resource Sharing, and CSU Pueblo Library. The Head serves as an active member of the Library Leadership Advisory Group, contributing to library strategic planning and organizational development. Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent. At least six years of collections or related experience in an academic library. Expertise in collection assessment, data analysis, and budget management. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated success leading and organizing teams to achieve common goals. Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice and how they relate to the mission of the Libraries and collection development. Record of professional accomplishments supporting minimum appointment at the rank of associate professor Continuing and Contract Faculty (non-tenure track). See

Librarianship: Leadership and Strategy Leads collection development strategy and implementation for CSU’s general collections, aligning them with the University’s mission and the CSU Principles of Community. Serves as the CSU representative to the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance, and other relevant groups. Leverages knowledge of scholarly communication trends and research and curricular needs to inform collection strategy. Develops contacts and organizational knowledge of vendors and publishers of key resources central to a major research library. Engages in license negotiations. Uses tools and applications to analyze and share statistical and assessment data related to University collections. As a key partner, provides input to discussions about potential changes in space allocation for physical collections. Librarianship: Supervision and Management Works with the Associate Dean for Collections and Discovery on strategic planning and unit goal setting. Supervises the work of a team of librarians and state classified employees, including performance planning, evaluations, and goal setting. Administratively coordinates collection review, selection, weeding, and other projects in collaboration with other departments in the CSU Libraries. Updates collections and related policies and procedures. Analyzes relevant data, provides reports and information to library administration as needed, and incorporates results into decision-making processes. Fosters communication between team members and eliminates work silos. Oversees unit budget and contributes to library-wide budget planning and strategy. Stays current in the field by pursuing professional development and integrates outcomes and learning into duties. Service Participates in service activities in support of the CSU Libraries, the university, and/or relevant professional organizations.
