The Data Center Analyst (Technician) is responsible for managing Data Center infrastructure, cabling, capacity and environment monitoring. The DC Analyst works closely with Fisher Investments Facilities team to insure proper cooling and electrical capacity is maintained. In addition the DC Analyst works with other Technology teams in assisting with hardware installation, moves, adds, changes, cabling requests, installation of new server racks and cabinets and managing the Ethernet and Fiber Channel cable plant.
The DC Analyst will proactively report environmental data and utilization in order to insure Senior Management has a good understanding of current state, remaining capacity and growth patterns. The DC Analyst will work with 3rd party Analysts and vendors on facilitating access to Data Centers to enable those vendor to perform their work under his or her supervision.
The DC Analyst will also assist with managing the infrastructure backup solution to insure production systems are backed up and backup tapes are stored offsite.
The ability to work a flexible off-hours schedule for planned and unplanned maintenance is required. This person will be traveling to two locations, one in San Mateo and one in Woodside. This will be an onsite role that could develop into something more permanent or long term given the additional co-los being added.
The Day-to-Day:
• Install server, storage, networking and telecom hardware
• Perform required equipment moves in order to efficiently utilize available rack space
• Escort vendors and outside technicians into the Data Center and supervise them while they perform their tasks.
• Proactively collect, monitor, analyze and report all relevant Data Center utilization metrics (space, cooling, electrical)
• Work with Technology teams on any physical data center requests (moved, adds, changes)
• Work closely with Fisher Investments Facilities team to insure all mechanical systems are properly functioning, properly sized and maintained.
• Work with external providers (power companies, broadband and network providers) on any maintenance activities and coordinate work to minimize any interruption in service
• Assist in monitoring and administrating Fisher Investments Backup infrastructure including monitoring backup jobs
• Maintain up to date, accurate documentation of the assets deployed including accurate Visio designs.
• Work with other backup related components like data deduplication systems
