Job Title:

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

SUMMARY:

To oversee, manage, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary and secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the AXL Academy Board of Directors.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

Leadership:

Ensure alignment between all programs and the vision, mission, and core values of AXL Academy.

Coach and develop the AXL Administration to maintain and enhance all aspects of AXL Academy, ensuring alignment with school-wide goals to engage, empower, and achieve.

Supervise direct reports of the Director of Operations and the Principal.

Strategic Planning, Program Development, and Implementation:

Plan consistently for achieving strategic outcomes related to the mission, vision, 5-Year Strategic Plan, School Success Model, and community voice.

Engage community stakeholders in Strategic Planning in equitable and thoughtful processes to ensure AXL Academy initiatives are service-oriented.

Develop, implement, and evaluate community school programs that meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students and families.

Maintain alignment between the school's mission/vision and the policies and strategic direction of AXL Academy’s Board of Directors.

Community Engagement:

Establish and maintain relationships with local service providers, businesses, and nonprofits to bring in resources, services, and opportunities for students and families.

Facilitate regular meetings with community partners and stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of programs and explore new partnership opportunities.

Maintain a positive, working relationship with the Board, keeping them informed of financial and legal matters.

Work with board members on various committees, attend all committee meetings when feasible, and share updates and recommendations.

Financial Management:

Develop and implement strategic financial plans to ensure AXL Academy's long-term financial stability and growth. This includes identifying potential revenue streams, fundraising, and optimizing current financial practices.

Pursue initiatives aimed at increasing AXL Academy’s capital reserves, enabling the school to undertake more ambitious projects and initiatives that benefit the community.

Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors to secure substantial financial support for AXL Academy’s future projects and goals.

Provide rigorous oversight of the school’s financial practices to maximize efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring resources are allocated in a manner that promotes sustainable growth.

Explore and implement innovative financial solutions and models that support the school’s mission and vision while fostering financial independence and growth.

Compliance:

Honor all local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations, responding appropriately to infractions.

Maintain a strong relationship with Aurora Public Schools, ensuring compliance with district requirements.

Ensure compliance with various agencies to meet deadlines and ensure success for AXL Academy, including:

Aurora Public Schools: Authorizer compliance, benchmarks, grant documentation, grade and assessment documentation, financial records, charter renewal, annual audits, ESS, and other district reporting requirements.

Colorado Department of Education: Read Act, new teacher induction, CLDE hours, ongoing professional development, UIP.

Federal Compliance.

AXL Board Compliance: Finance compliance, Secretary of State renewal, annual audits, annual board training.

Upholding the Vision: Engage

Cultivate relationships with foundations, corporations, and individuals for financial support, ensuring the school meets short- and long-term fundraising goals.

Develop and maintain a staff culture that embodies the school’s core values and mission/vision.

Strengthen relationships with faculty, parents, board of directors, donors, and the broader community.

Empower

Establish and maintain school-wide structures for consistency and equity.

Ensure academic culture and supports promote equity for all scholars, considering language, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, socio-economic status, nationality, disability, citizenship status, and religion.

Ensure staff and scholar safety at all times.

Achieve

Foster a spirit of engagement, empowerment, and achievement for staff and scholars.

Foster a culture of accountability, high academic achievement, and growth within the AXL community.

Lead initiatives to support and challenge all students by modeling a growth mindset.

Utilize student achievement data to refine teaching practices, improving students’ learning and character development.

Qualification Requirements:

A minimum 3-year commitment is strongly preferred to ensure stability and long-term success.

Commitment to all students’ learning with no limits or excuses.

At least 5 years of experience in education, including curriculum or program development, accountability measures, and professional development.

At least 3 years of experience as a school leader, executive director, or similar senior leadership role.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

In-classroom experience in K-12.

Experience with operations, finance, budgets, and financial planning.

Experience with fundraising and non-profit organizational management.

Knowledge of seeking and obtaining sponsorships a plus.

Ability to thrive in a diverse, intellectually challenging, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.

Record of developing talent.

Fluency with technology (email, spreadsheets, Infinite Campus, Google Suite, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position may experience exposure to outdoor elements.

Salary Range:

$130,000 - $150,000
