The Aerospace Business Area of the Leidos Defense Sector is seeking a Business Development Director to lead business development activities focused on our hypersonic and strategic systems market within the Department of Defense (DoD).
The role requires an ethical approach to identifying and pursuing new opportunities, comprehensive business acumen, technical understanding, resourcefulness, and outstanding business relationships. This position will report to the Aerospace Systems Business Area Growth Vice President.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and execute the marketing and BD strategy for our hypersonics and strategic systems portfolio.
Pursue new opportunities in boost glide and air-breathing hypersonic systems, reentry systems and targets, advanced materials, and high-speed/hypersonic testing.
Drive a culture of innovation and capture excellence as a trusted agent of the Division Management and Functional Management.
Manage and execute the full BD life-cycle process across multiple simultaneous pursuits and proposals.
Build a qualified pipeline of opportunities, shape customer requirements, and translate tacit customer needs into actionable features.
Develop strategy and BD capture plans that implement a vision for winning.
Manage investments in marketing and Bid and Proposal (B&P).
Collaborate with the technology team and solution architects to align division and technology strategies.
Basic Qualifications
This position requires a BA/BS or equivalent experience and 15+ years prior relevant experience or a Masters degree with 13+ years of experience.
Technical degree is a MUST, preferably engineering.
Excellent communication skills – demonstrated through written and oral presentations.
Possess business and technical vision.
Ability to think strategically.
Energetic and strong leader.
Possess analytical presentation and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with online tools used by the Government for solicitations.
Experience in identifying and qualifying large business development programs (>$150M Total Contract Value).
Proven record of success developing opportunities within the DoD Community (winning single award >$150M pursuits).
Demonstrated skills in all areas of business development including: opportunity qualification, capture strategy, customer visits and demonstrations, customer relationship development, and team leadership.
Experience in the development and successful negotiation of teaming agreements.
Subject matter expertise in high-speed weapons, hypersonics, and/or missiles in support of listed customers.
Experience presenting to senior executives, peers, and customers.
Ability to empower and engage people and instill drive and passion into the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years leading people, teams, and programs.
Minimum of 5 years leading pursuits in the DoD market.
Secret with Top Secret/SCI eligibility.
12+ years’ experience working in or with DoD.
Prior business development experience in any DoD and/or DoE market segment.
Experience working international bids and cooperative programs, and/or FMS.
Ability to gain internal support and establish solid working relationships with technical staff and peers.
