Warehouse Supervisor – Produce Industry

 

We are seeking an experienced Warehouse Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our warehouse in the produce industry. In this role, you will supervise a team of warehouse associates to ensure the efficient and accurate movement of fresh produce, while maintaining a focus on quality, safety, and productivity. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of warehouse supervisory experience in the produce industry, with a strong understanding of food safety and inventory control.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Inbound Operations:

 

  • Work closely with the Shipping and Receiving Coordinator to manage the timing and flow of incoming produce shipments, ensuring that products arrive on schedule and are handled properly.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of inbound produce for quality, freshness, and safety. Record and report findings, including photos, to the Operations Team.
  • Perform physical inventory counts of incoming produce, identify discrepancies, and report them to the Shipping and Receiving Coordinator and Sales Support Departments. Ensure accurate labeling and storage of products.
  • Notify Purchasing and Sales Departments of any product-related issues reported by the representative of Elite, the QA company used.

 

Outbound Operations:

 

  • Supervise the picking and packing of produce orders, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timeliness of shipments. Coordinate with the Shipping and Receiving Coordinator and Sales support team to prioritize and fulfill customer orders.
  • Ensure that produce is shipped based on FIFO practices to maintain the freshest product at the forefront and reduce spoilage.
  • Oversee the preparation of outbound shipments, ensuring products are correctly stacked, labeled, and shipped according to customer specifications.
  • Track and ensure timely shipping of orders, proactively addressing any potential delays.

 

Warehouse Operations & Staff Management:

 

  • Lead, train, and motivate a team of warehouse associates. Ensure productivity standards are met, and employees are performing efficiently and safely.
  • Assist in the organization of staff schedules to meet daily operational needs, ensuring adequate coverage for receiving, storage, and order fulfillment.
  • Continuously assess warehouse processes and workflows, providing recommendations for improvement in productivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Enforce all safety and food safety protocols, including proper handling of perishable goods, maintaining a clean and organized warehouse, and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance, provide coaching, and address any performance issues in a timely manner.

 

Warehouse Organization & Maintenance:

 

  • Ensure the warehouse is organized in an efficient manner that maximizes space, optimizes workflow, and supports food safety standards.
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, refrigeration units). Report any malfunctions and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels and product rotations to minimize waste and spoilage. Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and annual audits.

 

Safety & Compliance:

 

  • Ensure all produce is handled in compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards. Enforce proper handling procedures to prevent contamination and spoilage.
  • Enforce OSHA standards within the warehouse, ensuring that all safety practices are followed, including safe lifting techniques, proper use of equipment, and the maintenance of a clean working environment.
  • Ensure warehouse security protocols are followed, including monitoring access to the warehouse, securing products, and performing regular security checks.

 

Qualifications / Requirements:

 

  • 1-3 years of experience in warehouse operations or supervision in the produce industry.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required for effective communication with warehouse staff.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and familiarity with perishable goods handling and storage requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, train, and motivate warehouse staff.
  • Solid understanding of warehouse management procedures and inventory control systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift to 40 lbs. and work in a temperature-controlled (cold) environment.
  • Proficient in using warehouse management software and basic office tools (Microsoft Office).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with other departments.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends or holidays if required.

The salary range for this role is DOE $45,000-$55,000 annually. Benefits are offered after probationary.
