The Chief Program Officer (CPO) is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for overseeing and strategically guiding all programmatic aspects of New Day, a youth-serving nonprofit organization. The CPO will lead and manage programs focused on supporting youth experiencing homelessness or instability, including an emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing programs, and a youth drop-in center. This position is accountable for ensuring high-quality, mission-driven service delivery that meets the needs of youth while advancing the organization’s goals and values. The CPO must be prepared to respond to emergencies at all hours, including weekends, to support program continuity and the safety of staff and youth served.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field required; master’s degree preferred. Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in a nonprofit or social service setting, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
Experience working with youth, particularly those experiencing homelessness or instability, is strongly preferred. Skills and Competencies:
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, positive youth development, and housing-first approaches. Proven ability to manage multiple programs with attention to both strategic and operational detail. Demonstrated leadership skills with experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a range of audiences including funders, partners, and community members. Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills, with experience in program evaluation, data management, and grant compliance. Proficiency in managing budgets and financial resources. Culturally competent, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ability and willingness to respond to emergencies at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
