Description of Position

Casual Part-Time - Up to 19.5 hours weekly

HIRING RATE: $16.00/hour
Enforces all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations; Recognizes and responds effectively to emergencies; Inspects the aquatic facility on a daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to the Lead Pool Assistant; Completes records and reports. Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meetings as necessary.

Lifeguard:
  • Assist Lead Pool Assistant with the supervision of all special events held in the pool
  • Handles first aid problems
  • Reports all disciplinary problems to the Lead Pool Assistant
  • Makes report to the Lead Pool Assistant regarding patrons with health problems, bathing attire, and any other related concerns that could result in injuries
  • Uses proper guarding skills and procedures
  • Performs emergency procedures when necessary
  • Provides constant attention to assigned guarding areas
  • Uses safe work practices while on the job, including following proper and established procedure in the use of equipment and wearing appropriate and/or required safety and personal protective gear
  • Other related duties as assigned
Swim Instructor:
  • Instructs children, youth and/or adults in learn-to-swim skills and techniques
  • Demonstrates proper swimming skills
  • Complies with lesson plans
  • Supervise classes through skill practice
  • Organize skill practice to enhance skill learning
  • Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, business or program partners, and/or staff to provide information and solve problems
  • Set up and put away equipment as needed
  • Other related duties as assigned
This is a temporary part-time position working 0 - 19 hours per week as scheduled.
Minimum Expectations & Requirements

- Current Life Guard, Red cross water and CPR certification
- Good customer service/public relation skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule

Swim Instructor:
- Must hold a Water Safety Instructor Certification or have at least six (6) months experience teaching all ages from 6 months to adult
- Good customer service/public relation skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule

Preferred Skills & Abilities

- Experience working as lifeguard or swim instructor in public pool setting
- Work experience in a community college/higher education environment
