NORTHWEST MISSION LEAD The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a nonprofit, wildlife habitat conservation organization, seeks a northwest mission lead to assist RMEF’s mission leadership in implementing strategic vision and overall direction of mission operations in the region. This position is located in the Northwest (WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, ND, SD, NE). A bachelor’s degree in natural resources or related field is required. A minimum of seven years of experience in real estate, wildlife conservation, land management or stewardship field or a combination of these areas is preferred. Demonstrated understanding of wildlife, habitat stewardship and land conservation and public access experience working with difference stakeholders is required. October 2024 Job Summary:

The Northwest Mission Lead position assists the Managing Director of Mission Operations, Director of Land Conservation and Director of Wildlife and Habitat in implementing the strategic vision and overall direction of mission operations within the specific region. Duties include coordination and management of project-specific implementation; new stakeholder development; adherence to conservation easement obligations; relationship management between RMEF and private/public mission entities, agencies, or organizations; and promoting mission operations in support of RMEF fundraising programs and communication. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining regional operating plans where mission operation projects will be pursued within the specific region. The lead may be asked to work outside this area to represent RMEF and advance RMEF priorities. Essential Functions: 1) Develop regional mission operation plan and pipeline priorities, annually, within the designated region with assistance from Lands and Habitat Managers and in coordination with appropriate regional RMEF staff .

Implement a work plan of projects that support organizational success across divisions in the region. 2) Lands Projects – Complete, and support development of, land and access projects. Assist Lands Managers in building and maintaining a pipeline of high impact projects to support RMEF state and regional goals. Analyze, select, develop and complete appropriate transactions. Negotiate the terms and conditions, prepare and present appropriate documents and coordinate with all parties pertinent to the transaction. Adhere to policies and procedures in the RMEF Lands Program Handbook. 3) Habitat Stewardship – Address regionally systemic conservation easement (CE) needs. If needed, due to scope of obligations, recommend regional resources or deploy independent contractors, as approved, to prepare plans or address regional CE needs. 4) Habitat Stewardship & Wildlife Management – Represent RMEF with relevant land management organizations and private landowners/partners to identify and act on priority habitat needs for elk and other big game in each state within the region. Serve as a regional contact on pertinent issues including wildlife disease, habitat challenges and private land/elk issues, etc. Advise stakeholders on wildlife and habitat management best practices for the region. 5) Direct mission networking within region with a variety of public land agencies, corporations, land trusts, conservation organizations and individuals to seek clear project and partnerships deliverables. 6) Engagement in regional RMEF advocacy priorities, as directed and in coordination with Mission and Advocacy leadership. 7) Maintain coordination and communication with appropriate RMEF departments, including coordination with regional RMEF staff on annual operational priorities and national communications’ staff. 8) Maintain complete files and communications on project activity within RMEF platforms and in accordance with RMEF policy and operating procedures. 9) Maintain fiscal responsibility through annual budgets and land transaction negotiations. 10) Maintain a professional visibility and act as liaison among state, federal and local agencies, universities, sportsmen and women groups, conservation organizations, businesses, corporations and the public in order to promote the best interests of RMEF. 11) Other duties as assigned. Supervision of Others:

This position will not supervise staff but may supervise independent contractors/contracts. Education and Experience: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in natural resources or related field. A minimum of seven years of full-time professional experience in the real estate, wildlife conservation, nonprofit administration, land management or stewardship field or a combination of these areas is desired. Demonstrated understanding of wildlife, habitat stewardship and land conservation and public access experience in relationships with state and federal agencies, private landowners and land trusts is required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 1. Thorough knowledge and support of RMEF mission, goals, organizational structure and activities and the ability to promote them. 2. A demonstrated understanding of the responsibilities and mission of public land management organizations, public wildlife management organizations and nonprofit conservation organizations. 3. Demonstrated ability to complete land transactions and resolve conservation easement obligations. Working knowledge of real property, appraisals, titles, conservation easements and other real estate documents, and government land acquisition policies/procedures. 4. Skills to advocate for best practices of biology, habitat relationships and basic principles of wildlife ecology, range and forest management through public forums and planning documents. 5. Experience with conservation planning and performing across multi-state landscapes/regions. 6. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work constructively with a wide variety of entities internally and externally. 7. Ability to perceive and establish long-term goals to develop and implement projects that are cohesive, progressive, mission oriented and cost effective. Demonstrated ability to handle changing priorities and conflicting deadlines. Must be detail oriented and accurate. 8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with RMEF stakeholders and conduct professional presentations and events while working independently and within a remote team environment to lead a project and cooperate in a task. 9. Ability to identify funding sources and seek funding support. 10. Ability to represent RMEF in a professional manner. 11. Proficient in and knowledgeable of computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office and relational databases to conduct business from a home office. Ability to work with Microsoft Teams, Oracle Netsuite, GIS and mapping skills is preferable. 12. Ability to develop and manage a budget. Physical Demands: The incumbent will encounter both office and field conditions and will be required to travel extensively. Office work will require sitting or standing for long periods of time, frequent use of office equipment such as telephones, scanners and computers, and light lifting, bending and physical exertion. Travel by automobile, airplane, horse, foot or mechanized ORVs may be required. Evening work and weekend work may be required.
