Position Summary:
Primary function will be to safeguard the health and safety of swimmers, aquatics class participants and guests as well as prevent and respond to accidents.
Rescues swimmers in distress and administers artificial respiration, CPR and/or AED as required.
Lifeguard will be responsible for the regular checks of safety equipment, water testing, daily recording of regulated and non-regulated data, cleanliness and operation of the swimming pool/spa, pool area and locker rooms during operating hours and reporting unsafe conditions or equipment.
Other assigned tasks expected to be accomplished as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs duties as assigned to safeguard swimmers and maintain pool/spa area such as water testing, upkeep of pool area cleanliness, using lift appropriately, attending to water volleyball set up/take down, safety equipment checks, daily logs and sign in sheets.
- Assures that pool rules are consistently followed and enforced.
- Maintains a polite, accommodating, positive, helpful attitude and manner towards all facility users and service companies which may be working within the facility.
- Responsive to the needs of all persons using the facility.
- Deals well with stressful situations involving residents.
- Maintains professional presence when representing BSF.
- Exhibits degree of professionalism consistent with standards in performance, behavior, and appearance.
- Maintains resident confidentiality and privacy at all times according to BHS policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing resident matters.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with residents, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff.
- Maintains positive working relationships with Providence Point management and providers; willingly follows directions and requests as appropriate.
- Exhibits professional standards through appearance and demeanor consistent with BHS standards; always dresses and grooms appropriately and according to department dress code/HR policy.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of work assignments; performs assignments in a manner to meet quality and timeliness objectives.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of BSF policies and procedures; seeks clarification or interpretation of questions concerning policies/procedures from appropriate supervisor.
- Adheres to BHS attendance policy by maintaining an adequate absentee rate and provides proper documentation to support absences when appropriate or required.
- Always complies with applicable safety and appropriate certification policies and procedures as prescribed by the organization, as well as Allegheny County government regulations for pool and spa. This includes ensuring current certifications and re-certifications are provided to supervisor.
- Plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisor.
- Follows up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns, and uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in those sensitive and emotional situations.
Qualifications:
- Current certifications in Lifeguarding and First Aid, current CPR/AED certification or able to get certified before hire date. Must keep all certifications current while employed.
- Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques, facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Excellent communication, decision making, leadership, public relations skills.
- Punctuality and low rate of call off is imperative. See employee manual for absenteeism guidelines.
Preferred: Experience with seniors a plus.
Work Schedule:
Part Time: Weekdays + weekends as needed
