The Tyler County Heritage Village Museum, located in the small rural town of Woodville, Texas, seeks to find an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial Executive Director to bring fresh ideas to the Village Museum. The Executive Director is responsible for strategic leadership and the overall operational, programmatic and financial health of the museum complex, containing multiple buildings, a library, a gift shop, and a nature trail. The campus includes historic buildings that have been moved to the complex, a local artist’s home displaying his artwork, and structures that have been constructed to house pioneer skills such as spinning, weaving and blacksmithing. In addition to a steady flow of tourists, the Village serves as a fieldtrip site for hundreds of students every year. Numerous senior tour groups from surrounding cities frequent the Village.
Accountability:
Working closely with the Tyler County Heritage Society (TCHS) Board of Directors, the Executive Director is the public face of the Village and reports to the President of TCHS.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Tyler County Heritage Society (TCHS) in long-range and strategic planning.
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Village. Provide public presentations, maintain website and social media accounts, and oversee the development and printing of Village publications.
Develop and oversee annual community and fundraising events, continually reassessing traditional events and introducing new ones.
Ensure the Village’s financial stability and sustainability by collaborating with TCHS to prepare a budget and then ensure adherence to the budget and maintain accurate financial records.
Supervise the hiring and management of personnel and organize volunteers.
Manage and maintain Village properties and assets including buildings, grounds, offices, and equipment.
Prepare, manage and retain records of inventories, gifts, donations, exhibits, artifacts, sales, taxes, and other reports.
Assist TCHS grant writers in seeking funds for ongoing projects.
Key Selection Criteria:
A college degree in History, Museum Studies, Education, Business Administration or a related field – or equivalent experience.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with visitors, staff, donors, docents, and community members effectively.
Grant writing skills, public relations and/or advertising skills are preferred.
Bookkeeping or basic accounting skills.
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks, and basic website and social media update capabilities.
Salary:
$25/hour (approximately $52,000/yr), with the expectation that most weeks will require at least 40 hours, and a few will require overtime. Two weeks paid vacation, with one week after six months.
