Description

This position is responsible for the physical safety and general maintenance of the Hopewell Community Center pool.
Examples of Duties

  • Monitors activity of pool patrons, assists swimmers in need, and provides first aid when necessary
  • Enforces pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe and orderly environment
  • Assistswithavarietyofaquaticprograms,includingswimminglessons,swimmingclinics,andspecial events
  • Keeps pool deck, surrounding areas, shower facilities, and pool equipment clean and orderly
  • Provides high-quality customer service
  • Assists with maintaining a inventory of equipment, supplies, and pool chemicals
  • Participates in training and development activities for certification maintenance
  • Responsible for opening and closing the pool area of the Hopewell Community Center
  • Assists with other recreational programs throughout the department as needed
  • Assist with the organization and implementation of special events coordinated by the Department of Recreation and Parks and other city departments; may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and in times of emergency (activation of the city's Emergency Operations Center).
Typical Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma/GED and previous lifeguard experience preferred but not required

Licenses and/or Certifications:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid certifications required

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of water safety rules, general pool policies, and Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR practices and techniques
  • General knowledge of pool cleaning and maintenance practices
Skills:
  • Swimming, communication, customer service and teaching skills
Abilities:
  • Physical ability to perform rescues and assist disabled persons
  • Ability to take quick and appropriate action under stressful conditions
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment

Supplemental Information

Work Environment:
  • Work is primarily performed indoors but is exposed to temperature changes and/or extreme noise, odors, heights, depths and/or dust. However, on occasions will be assigned outdoor duties for special events/assignments.
Essential Physical Activities:
  • Stooping, crouching, sitting, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping ,hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception.
