Overview & Responsibilities :

General Responsibilities:

- Drives daily and weekly route schedules to transport residents to shopping, entertainment, worship, medical offices, etc. Also drives residents to specially schedules events.

- Assists residents in and out of the bus utilizing the wheelchair lift and/or stairs, if needed. Carries and loads oxygen tanks and follows basic instructions and precautions for their use. Carries belongings, opens doors, and cautions residents on steps and other objects in their path. Opens/closes and loads/unloads walkers and wheelchairs.

- Conducts daily checks of bus operation including fuel, oil, wipers, fluids and interior and exterior lights, etc. Notifies supervisor of concerns and needs. Drives bus to service center to obtain needed repairs and services. Maintains records and logs of internal and external service.

- Fills the bus with gasoline and pre-approved service stations.

- Ensures the interior and exterior of the bus is cleaned. Vacuums interior and collects and disposes of garbage. Wipes surfaces. Cleans windows. Washes exterior as necessary.

- Responds appropriately and in a safe manner in the event of unforeseen operational malfunctions. Follows emergency procedures and ensures the protection of passengers. Ensures requirements relating to emergency exit doors, eating, drinking and smoking in or near vehicle are followed at all times.

- Interacts with residents in a friendly manner providing meaningful attention and communicating concerns of resident's health to management as appropriate.

- Responds appropriately to resident emergencies by calling or contacting appropriate internal and external parties according to established protocol. May also assist with disaster management efforts and activities during evacuations (i.e. fires, hurricanes, etc.).

- May also assist with activities and schedules events such as bingo. Runs errands for events and community as requested.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications:

- Education:

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Experience:

- Minimum of one-year successful experience of operating a bus. Prior experience working with older adults is preferred.

- Reasoning Skills:

- Understand conflict solution and has is timely.

- Oral/Written Communication Skills:

- Demonstrates exceptional communications skills, both verbally and written in dealing with older adults. Able to track and fill out documentation to keep record of older adults leaving and entering the building per trip. Be knowledgeable regarding resident rights, confidentiality, how to meet the public and answer questions, team member handbook and census.

- Equipment Used:

- Proficient with large capacity passenger vehicles. Able to use a wheelchair lift for older adults and load oxygen tanks. Understanding of bus operations including fuel, oil, wipers, fluids, interior and exterior lights, and any other issues within the vehicle that may arise.

- Physical Effort:

- Good physical health verified by a health screening, including a chest x-ray or an intradermal test not more than 6 months prior or seven (7) days after employment.

- Personal Characteristics:

- Ability to show sincere compassion towards older adults. Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people and their families. Displays a team spirit in transporting older adults to and from the needed location. Possesses good character and displays personal integrity. Be friendly, courteous, patient, understanding, and work well with people, including team members, residents, families, meet deadlines, organize and prioritize the work load. Must be able to stay calm and courteous despite the constant interruptions of the front desk, which is the hub of the community.

- Working Conditions:

- Well-lighted office with appropriate ventilation and temperature levels.

- Other: (As required by Title 22)

- Team member must pass a criminal record clearance prior to beginning work in the community.

- Clean Driving Record

- Team member must have a clean driving record and this will be verified prior to employment.
