Position Overview:

The Middle Tennessee Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Skilled Trades/STEM Program Director to lead and manage the development and execution of our council's STEM and Skilled Trades programs. This role is critical in delivering quality Scouting experiences that engage and retain youth participants, helping to grow the Scouting movement within our region. The Program Director will work closely with volunteers, community leaders, and staff to ensure the successful delivery of programs throughout the year, including summer camps and council events.

As a key member of the team, the Program Director will oversee all aspects of these programs, including event planning, staff and volunteer recruitment, budget management, and program execution. The position also requires serving as a spokesperson at events and fostering strong relationships with local businesses and community partners to enhance the council's outreach and fundraising efforts.

Starting Pay and Benefits:

Starting at $51,000. This includes base salary plus a monthly compensation for vehicle and business phone usage. Other benefits include major medical and prescription coverage, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, accidental death, a defined benefit retirement plan, plus additional monthly compensation for business mileage. We also offer a vacation policy and ten holiday observances. Annual increase in salary is determined by an individual’s overall performance.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

United States citizenship or declared intention to become a U.S. citizen

Valid Driver’s License

Proficient in MS Office Suite

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve goals

People-oriented, having the ability to work well with adult volunteers, community and business leaders, and representatives of other organizations

Able to work varied hours when necessary to achieve positive objectives

Believe in Scouting America and be willing to subscribe to its principles and standards

Eligible to receive a professional Scouting commission – a criminal background will be performed

Non-profit, fundraising, sales or marketing experience is a plus

Flexible work schedule

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the Development and Execution

of all STEM and Skilled Trades programs within the council, ensuring high-quality experiences for youth participants.

Support Year-Round Programs

in collaboration with the Camping Director, including High School, Middle School, and Elementary School Scout programs, as well as weekend activities, and community events.

Manage Fundraising Efforts

related to STEM and Skilled Trades programs, working with donors, corporate sponsors, and community leaders to secure necessary funding.

Staff Leadership:

Serve as the key staff leader for the STEM and Skilled Trades Committees, guiding and supporting volunteers in delivering programs effectively.

Summer Camp Leadership:

Oversee all aspects of the STEM and Skilled Trades programs at summer camps, including planning, staff training, and program execution.

Event and Budget Management:

Plan and manage all aspects of council events related to STEM and Skilled Trades, ensuring that program and budget goals are met.

Volunteer Recruitment and Training:

Recruit, develop, and maintain a strong volunteer team to support program delivery. Provide training and guidance to ensure volunteers are prepared to offer top-tier program experiences.

Community Engagement:

Serve as the council’s spokesperson at assigned events and activities, representing the council, and building relationships with community and business leaders.

Continuous Improvement:

Develop and implement evaluation strategies to monitor program performance, assess participant satisfaction, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Additional Responsibilities:

Collaboration:

Work closely with other council staff and departments to align program efforts with broader council goals and strategies.

Program Goals:

Ensure the council's objectives for program retention, recruitment, and growth are met through effective planning and execution.

Strategic Planning:

Initiate and set program goals that align with the council’s long-term vision and mission.

Risk and Resource Management:

Apply best practices in change, risk, and resource management to optimize program delivery.

Legal and Policy Compliance:

Ensure that all program activities adhere to council policies, medical standards, and legal guidelines.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in

STEM education or Skilled Trades

programs.

Knowledge of

fundraising and development

strategies for youth programs.

Strong understanding of

performance evaluation techniques

and key program metrics.
