This position will work with the cross-functional team for the design of PROCEPT’s future products. Be a part of advancing the state of image-guided, minimally invasive robotic surgery by joining a team committed to revolutionizing BPH surgical treatment. This position will have the opportunity to excel within a high-energy, small, focused team environment, maintain a strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward, and to make work fun and interesting. Collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, and Clinical teams on capital equipment and hand-held consumables. You will help to design robotic system architecture, product components, mechanical interfaces, ergonomic solutions, and user interfaces on new current offerings.
The Senior Designer designs and develops Procept BioRobotics products in compliance with applicable quality system procedures and regulations. This position will be responsible for supporting the existing and next generation AquaBlation System design optimized for clinical effectiveness and low-cost manufacturing.
What Your Day-To-Day Will Involve:
Product design – Deliver award-winning industrial design and innovation of handpiece, robot, accessories, and interface design with unwavering passion for ease of use and intuitive interactions. User needs – Play a critical role working with customers, Marketing, Clinical, and Engineering teams for user insights, unmet needs, product opportunities, and risk identification; communicate passion and empathy for the customer in a way that is contagious and inspires teams; translate design inputs into requirements and specifications. UI/UX – Apply user interface and experience design to define user experiences, interfaces, product architectures, system requirements, and features (e.g., system layouts, user access, ranges of motion, degrees of freedom, etc.); represent and advocate for UXD on complex programs by elevating customers’ needs and corresponding solutions. Usability – Understand user task analyses and usability risks to develop solutions for optimizing procedure workflows, orders of operation, error handling, and risk management; apply your user experience design, human factors background, and creative problem solving to lead new UXD/HF efforts within project teams. DfX – Create design solutions for new products with attention to system performance, reliability, ease-of-use, safety, production, and cost; design and develop structural mechanical solutions, articulating interfaces and aesthetic enclosures with acute focus on engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and service. Prototyping – Create architectural mockups, structural buck models, GUI interface concepts, 3D printed parts, and manage finishing assembly and graphics for team review and user testing. User testing – Support VoC and usability testing by creating product concept deliverables, coordinating presentations, building test materials, supporting testing, and reporting. Marketing support – Create product rendering assets and animations for presentations, training materials, instructions for use, and promotion. Project management – Coordinate projects, manage internal and external resources, manage changes, communicate progress, and execute deliverables on-time, within cost and quality targets across multiple simultaneous programs; collaborate cross-functionally to find the best possible product for our customers by finding the sweet spot between customers’ needs, business constraints, and technical solutions. Process improvement – Create a vision for the future of design at Procept; develop cutting edge tools and processes for delivering design solutions and assets to the company to elevate the level of design sophistication and brand promise of Procept product offerings; lead the definition, development, and execution of design activities throughout product development; teach ID/UX processes and understanding of our customers to cross-functional project teams, senior leaders, and junior associates. Maintain trained status for, and comply with, all relevant aspects of the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality Management System to ensure product and support regulatory compliance. Understand and adhere to the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality & EHS Policies. The Qualifications We Need You to Possess:
Award-winning talent. Sublime aesthetic vision, sensitivity, and execution. 5+ years of working experience with complex industrial design solutions and electromechanical systems. Proficiency using CAD for design and development: SolidWorks (required) and strength in graphic design, animation, and rendering software programs. Knowledge of component manufacturing processes (including machining, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, injection molding, casting, MiM, weldments, etc.). Problem-solving skills. Anticipation of and rapid response to emerging design challenges; intuition and creativity to bring technical and robust solutions to complex problems. The Qualifications We Would Like You to Possess:
Experience with designing products in an FDA or other regulated industry; comfortable with concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis. Familiarity with IEC 60601-1, IEC 62366, and ISO 14971 requirements is a plus. Comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing. Experience with mechanism design, robotics, and automation, medical robotics is a strong plus.
