The Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) Housing and Community Development (HCD) Division is recruiting among HCD staff for a special duty assignment or term limited temporary Senior Housing Planner. They will temporarily lead the King County Affordable Housing Committee’s (AHC) review of all King County jurisdictions’ draft comprehensive plans for alignment with the King County Countywide Planning Policies (CPPs) Housing Chapter. HCD is looking for an individual with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a passion for advancing housing affordability solutions. The ideal candidate will also have experience working on local affordable housing planning and policy development. To succeed in this role, this position must be able to take direction from and collaborate with people working within and outside DCHS and provide the necessary technical support to the AHC. This position will be filled as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA) that is expected to last three months and start on January 11, 2025. WHO MAY APPLY:

This is a Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position anticipated to end 3 months after start date, but subject to change dependent on operational need. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is not eligible for overtime. Typical hours are Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. This position is represented by Protec17. TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT:

The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. grmallory@kingcounty.gov RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead and coordinate review of King County jurisdictions’ housing-related elements of draft comprehensive plans for alignment with the King County CPP Housing Chapter. Provide strategic education, technical assistance, insights, and observations to local jurisdictions on the new CPP Housing Chapter policy requirements. Assign and coordinate work done by team members supporting plan review team. Apply an equity and social justice mindset to all aspects of the work. Serve on interjurisdictional committees and other staff work groups. Maintain and communicate about resources that aid local planners. Draft comment letters regarding assigned draft jurisdictional comprehensive plans for the AHC. Conduct research and analysis to deepen understanding of effective and equitable planning strategies. Collaborate with teammates to develop reports, presentations, and educational material. Lead or support other Planning, Policy, and Special Projects team efforts. Apply project management skills to successfully deliver products and services. Represent the comprehensive plan review program at external meetings. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, urban planning, public administration or related field and at least three years of experience in affordable housing or related fields. A demonstrated ability to build consensus and facilitate collaboration. Experience managing complex policy or planning projects. Knowledge of housing policy or land use planning practices. Experience developing or reviewing housing-related policies. Demonstrated exceptional communication skills. Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to succeed in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to research best practices and analyze data. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience applying equity and social justice principles. Can work independently and as part of a diverse team.
