Business Development Manager (Senior or Mid-level)
1. Summary

We are seeking a Business Development (BD) Manager at the senior or mid level to join our growing team. The BD Manager will support the implementation of Causal Design’s new business development strategy by gathering business intelligence on upcoming bids, leading capture efforts, and managing proposals in response to USAID and other clients. We are looking for an organized, proactive individual who enjoys working in a dynamic, small business environment. In this role, you will be given the latitude to experiment and develop your skills under the mentorship of the Sr. Director of BD.
This hybrid position is based in Denver, Colorado or Washington DC
.
The position has the potential for international travel.
2. Responsibilities
This position will support the Business Development Unit and will report to the Senior Director of Business Development and Learning. Key responsibilities include:
Lead and coordinate the development, drafting, and finalization of technical and cost proposals and budgets, with inputs from technical and operations staff.
Lead capture and proposal development efforts, including contributing to partner selection and contract negotiations with prime contractors and/or partner organizations.
Track new business opportunities and ensure the new business pipeline is up-to-date.
Contribute to the company’s new business development strategy.
Manage proposal and BD consultant recruitment.
Maintain and develop new relationships with partners, public- and private-sector clients, and corporate/family foundations.
Collaborate with a range of team members across time zones.
Mentor and help build the capacity of BD team members at the Coordinator level.
Attend conferences and networking events on behalf of Causal Design.
3. Qualifications
Required:
Sr BD Manager:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field plus a minimum of 6 years relevant professional experience, or a Masters Degree in a relevant field plus 4 years of directly related professional experience.
BD Manager:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field plus a minimum of 4 years of directly related professional experience, or a Masters Degree in a relevant field plus 2 years of directly related professional experience.
Either Position:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency in MS Word and Google Docs
Ability to manage multiple business development efforts simultaneously
Strong multitasking and deadline management skills
Ability to independently prioritize and manage workload
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Self-motivated and collaborative
Preferred :
Demonstrated knowledge of federal contracting and procurement
At least 2 years of experience in a BD role with USAID as a primary client.
Experience with M&E, research, or evaluation products
Strong networking skills

This is a full-time, exempt, employee role with Causal Design. Applicants must be authorized to work in the USA for any employer. The salary range for the Sr. BD Manager is $79,559 – $103,422 annually, while the BD Manager is $65,757 – $85,485, commensurate with experience. To reduce bias in compensation and promote wage transparency, all salaries at Causal Design are determined by our competitive standardized pay scale.
