Our Global Product Strategy (GPS) team plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare by driving the strategic direction of our innovative product portfolio. As a member of the GPS team, you will be at the forefront of transforming groundbreaking scientific discoveries into accessible and impactful healthcare solutions for patients worldwide. The Head of Strategy will directly contribute to GPS stewardship of the Portfolio by developing, guiding and enabling strategy for the Pharma enterprise. E2E DA and TA strategies that are consistent, agreed upon and anchored across all Pharma organizations will allow for better and faster decision making, facilitating the work of the Development and Business Boards as well as enhancing decision making at the SPCs for internal and external assets and disease choices. Your mission as the Head Strategy is to lead a team working across the organization to shape Roche strategies to ensure clarity, maximize our portfolio, anticipate needs and deploy solutions to internal and external customers, by providing powerful insights and influencing decisions at the highest level of the Pharma organization.
Key Responsibilities
Creates a vision for and leads a team of strategists who partner with E2E stakeholders to guide and enable the development and execution of strategies at Pharma, Therapeutic Area and Disease Area level. Lead key strategic initiatives across the Pharma organization and cross-functional projects that are integral to the development and implementation of One Pharma Strategy and Pharma Division and above GPS initiatives. Identify key trends and issues affecting the global market and considers potential solutions in addressing opportunities and challenges. Enable the enterprise to make informed strategic choices by sharing Portfolio-level commercial perspective, commercial performance, external implications and assessing the risks and opportunities of the Commercial portfolio and identify organizational and global actions (including, decision-making on trade-offs, prioritization of GPS resources, and influencing early stage, PD, and Partnering). Ensure decision quality by architecting the path to a decision, the decision making model, developing strategic options and trade-off analysis, and portfolio prioritization; ensure effective metrics are implemented. Act as strategic counterpart to finance colleagues in the annual strategic business planning exercise. Who You Are
Scientific and commercial understanding of the global pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry (from Discovery to Patients) to create robust and innovative business strategies. 10+ years of experience with increasing responsibility and proven track record in a leadership role, from strategic planning to execution and results (multiple projects, complex programs in R&D or commercial settings, operational leadership) and experience in development and implementation of strategies of various scope and scale. Excellent judgment and analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to diagnose issues, manage conflict and provide alternative solutions. Outstanding VACC (Visionary, Architect, Catalyst and Coach) leadership skills in complex and matrix organizations: proven track record in building, leading and inspiring teams; ability to influence in a collaborative way within a cross functional environment; leading and managing change on a large scale; consistent ability to prioritize and deliver high impact strategic work across multiple priorities and stakeholders. Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to form strong cohesive partnerships; Fluent written and verbal English. Ability to constructively and effectively raise challenging issues and create the opportunity for meaningful conversation at the senior executive level, influencing the strategic position of Roche for the long-term future. MBA, MD, PhD or other relevant Graduate or Postgraduate Degree is preferred. Relevant strategy experience such as management consulting is preferred. The primary location for this position is South San Francisco and relocation benefits within the US are available. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
