PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Director of Sports & Wellbeing is responsible for managing and instructing athletic programs, clinics and classes that promote Sports and build good character and leadership throughout the school year as well as serve as an alternate camp director during Summer Camp seasons. The Sports & Wellbeing Program Director is also responsible for creating and maintaining a Club environment that is healthy, engaging, safe and educational. A successful candidate will have the ability to oversee the recruitment, training, and evaluation of staff and volunteers related to their programming, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants. Additionally, the Sports & Wellbeing Program Director will be tasked with budget management, marketing initiatives, and fostering partnerships with local organizations to enhance program offerings and community involvement. The Sports & Wellbeing Director will directly supervise the Healthy Lifestyle Specialist and Basketball Coordinator.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development that is responsive to community needs.

Primary planner, supervisor, coordinator and instructor for & healthy lifestyle programming.

Manages part-time Basketball Coordinator to ensure a high level of basketball related programming.

Manage Sports Specialist to assist in creating Sports program enhancements in the After School Program curriculum, including daily activities throughout the duration of the year at the Southport Clubhouse and McKinley Site.

Create, implement and execute annual program agenda that reflects the needs of the community and meets/exceeds organizational budgetary goals.

Create and implement tournaments and activities for days off from school.

Recruit, train and retain program staff/volunteers to achieve a high level of instruction, coaching and/or supervision.

Manage facility rentals with outside organizations.

Manage adult programming, including early morning basketball and morning daytime pickleball.

Develop additional sources of revenue and membership during times when facility is under-used.

Serve as Assistant Director for Summer Camp programs, leagues and various camps as required by Summer Camp Director.

Assist in implementing year-long marketing strategy that highlights program strengths, goals and vision of strategic plan.

Ensures a safe clubhouse and premises for all members, ASP staff, volunteers and visitors.

Create a comprehensive program budget focusing on program growth and sustainability for the diverse local community, including but not limited to varying interests, grades, gender/identity, special needs and abilities.

Assist in evaluating and reviewing staff performance; develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding member successes and challenges.

Serve as liaison between HL&W program staff and Program Directors, Custodian.

Assists in implementing membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.

Create a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions

Foster a climate of innovation and resolve issues to ensure member satisfaction.

Coordinate with Program Directors on program specifics and registration details.

Assist in Club fundraising activities and special events.

Actively participates in staff meetings and/or related trainings.

Standard hours are typically weekdays between 10:00-6:00pm, depending on the activities. Weekend and evening flexibility required.

RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.

External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and other to assist in resolving problems.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

A degree in child development, recreation management or similar field, or comparable experience in youth development. Non-profit experience as a staff member or volunteer is also preferred.

Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Understanding of child development.

Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software.

Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.

Multi-tasking in a distracting, active-youth oriented environment.

Clear understanding and possession of cultural competency.

Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.

Customer Service Experience.

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.

Ability to maintain files, records, spread sheets and data base and to make mathematical calculations using a calculator.

Ability to concentrate on detail and issues with some interruption, pressure and changing priorities.

Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks over long periods of time and the ability to remember information that has been read, studied or previously learned.

Ability to use knowledge and reasoning to solve problems.

Ability to work with children and teenagers in a Boys & Girls Club setting with frequent distractions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.

Ability to get from one location in the work site(s) to other locations inside and outside from the primary work site(s).

Mobility to make facility inspections.

Ability to reach and bend, and push/pull or lift objects up to thirty (30) pounds.

Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing, using a keyboard and/or calculator.

Ability to see and read objects closely as in reading narrative or financial reports.

Ability to read from a computer monitor.

Ability to see objects far away as in driving.

Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise as in hearing/using a telephone or two-way radio.

Ability to distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech.
