The Opportunity

The Head of Claims Operations plays a crucial role to ensure delivery of claims operation services and compliance within the Claims organization. This role is responsible for consistent and reliable delivery of end-to-end claims processes, continuous monitoring, identification of opportunities for performance and process improvement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance claims excellence. This role will also have accountability for the Claims Compliance area, which is accountable for regulatory compliance, compliance monitoring and testing, development and administration of controls, as well as operational administration of TPAs. You are responsible for overseeing the Claims Operations and Compliance Departments. These functions include but are not limited to: claims compliance, claims intake, claims communications, claims coding updates, reconciliation of reserves and expenses, issuing payments, and assisting with data interfaces and reporting. This role will also work with Transformation to assist with implementation of new systems, tools, and technology to improve efficiency. Additionally, you will assist with onboarding of vendor partners and assist with coordination and execution of internal and external reporting functions. This role collaborates regularly with the Claims Leadership Team, Finance, Law, Audit, Actuarial, Service Delivery, and other MRS-NA and Group Departments.

Responsibilities:

Direct the Claims Operations & Compliance teams, including Inhouse Claims Operations and Delegated Authority Claims Operations, and Claims Compliance. Ensure all end-to-end claim-related processes are delivered accurately and efficiently, including: claims intake, acknowledgement and set-up, general claims communications, reconciliation of disbursements and recoveries, and issuing payments.

Develop and monitor all Claim Operations KPI’s to ensure timely processing and resolution, minimizing backlogs and delays. Complete quality control reviews. Provide operational reports and analysis to the Claims Leadership Team and Chief Claims Officer.

Create an Operations Workforce strategy to attract and retain talent with training, a career development plan, including succession planning, mentorship, and cross-training opportunities.

Identify opportunities for process improvement and to leverage technology to enhance Claim Operations.

Create and cultivate strong collaboration with Finance, Actuarial, Statistical Reporting, Law Underwriting, and other MRSI partners to implement opportunities for business process optimization.

Oversee and operationalize onboarding activities and maintenance of TPA programs. Collaborate with TPAs for opportunities in efficiency and data-sharing.

Ensures MRSI Claims accountability for claims compliance and risk mitigation for both internal claims function and external partners and vendors.

Updates and advises on changes to risk and business continuity policies and procedures as well as oversee their implementation across Department.

Maintains and ensures performance of appropriate financial and operational risk controls.

Administers TPA relationships, including control environment and performance monitoring/audit.

Escalate technical issues to IT for Production support. Ensure appropriate fixes are applied, assist with conducting root cause analysis, and solution to prevent future issues.

Assist the MRSI Claims Department in Transformation by participating in projects and leading efforts as it relates to the Claim Operations team.

Job Requirements:

BA and/or advanced degree.

10-12 years of claims operations and/or compliance experience; 5 years or more insurance related.

Ability to prepare presentation documents and present to senior leadership, demonstrate strong organizational, planning and communication skills.

Experience with enterprise systems and operations best practices.

In-depth knowledge and experience with insurance claims operations—including first notice of loss, claims adjusting support, and payments/settlement.

Proven ability to manage people and lead multiple teams.

Enjoys operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and effectively prioritizes.

Ability to interact collaboratively and work effectively with a multi-functional team and throughout the organization; foster an environment of shared responsibility and accountability.

Strong analytical skills and mindset.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Analytic and technical ability to develop reports, metrics, and improvement plans.

Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Products.

This position is being offered in several of our office locations, including Princeton, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; Hartford, CT; and Chicago, IL.
