POSITION SUMMARY:
The MRI Quality Specialist is an integral member of the MRI department at Boston Medical Center. This technologist functions as a facilitator, coordinator, investigator, educator, quality specialist, and MRI technologist. Working closely with the Manager of MRI services, the MRI Quality Specialist anticipates problems before they arise and finds solutions to issues affecting the department's daily operations. The MRI Quality Specialist is a point-person that MR technologists can look to for guidance and assistance in daily workflows.
MRI Quality Specialist time is devoted to scanning (25%) and facilitation (75%). Working days and hours are flexible in conjunction with department operating needs and will be dictated by the Manager of MRI services.

Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Reporting to the Manager of MRI Services, the MRI Quality Specialist is responsible for: Verifying compliance of various quality procedures (ACR phantoms, cleaning/metal detector/medication logs, administering annual competency checklists, and more) Updating and maintaining protocols across MR scanners Enhancing MRI safety practices within the department Ensuring new employees are onboarded with an appropriate level of training Educating and training all MR technologists on new scanning methods and departmental procedures while also ensuring staff are knowledgeable of current practices Delegating floor duties to staff Working with the Manager of MRI services to ensure proper staffing coverage Fielding various projects assigned to them by the Manager of MRI Services Acting as a witness during investigatory meetings Proactively reviewing the patient schedule for any concerns or issues and making corrections as necessary Developing and maintaining device/implant log containing safety information on medical devices and possible contraindications to MRI Researching and logging safety information on medical devices, implants, and other possible contraindications individual patients may possess Relieving technologists for break periods Functioning as a dedicated MRI technologist when coverage is necessary Working alongside the Lead MRI technologist on various projects and initiatives Following through with departmental initiatives Ordering and requesting departmental supplies Must adhere to all of BMC's RESPECT behavioral standards. JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Knowledge of principles and procedures of MRI and the operation and maintenance of equipment generally acquired through the completion of training either in an ARRT approved formal educational program or through fulfillment of the didactic and clinical requirements for advanced registration in MRI as outlined by the ARRT. Associates degree, Bachelors preferred CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Certification in MRI from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) BLS EXPERIENCE: At least five years (5+) working as an MRI technologist, prior supervisory experience preferred KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of Philips and GE MRI scanner software required Strong understanding of cross-sectional anatomy, MR image acquisition, and evaluation Understanding and enforcement of various MRI safety practices Ability to rely on experience, judgment, and time management skills to plan and accomplish goals Leadership abilities, prior experience in a leadership role preferred Strong written and oral communication skills Prior experience working in a busy academic institution preferred Ability to teach Experience with Microsoft Office suite Equal Opportunity Employer/Disabled/Veterans
