Senior SQL Data Management Analyst

I have a full time opportunity for a Senior Data Management Analyst to join a top tier investment organization in Hartford, CT. The successful applicant should to support data requests, perform complex data analysis, and communicate recommended solutions (both written and oral). They should also be able to manage day-to-day data issues and data quality reports, perform data testing, and confirm data issues are remediated. This role is a hand-on analyst role and requires strong data analytical problem-solving skills.

This is 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work with Global Data Manager to engage business users and IT management to lead data quality program and establish high data quality for various investment and market data elements (asset classifications and quality ratings for fixed income and equity securities)
  • Manage daily data requests, support application teams to analyze and clean up data issues, and identify opportunities to help both IT and business to improve operating efficiencies for portfolio compliance, credit/quality ratings and trading.
  • Create a Data Quality foundation to establish data quality responsibilities, data stewardship, and operating procedures and processes
  • Understand the data model and business rules in our vendor platforms, to recommend new processes which increase data enrichment and matching accuracy
  • Work with the development team on process automation that validates data integrity across our platforms
  • Design and implement Data Quality validation and dashboard monitoring processes for critical data assets. Establish operational processes to communicate with stakeholders and IT teams to review and continuously improve data quality
  • Uses knowledge of end-to-end data processes to analyze, cleanse, and enrich master data elements, and ensure that data flows efficiently and consistently between users and stakeholders.
  • Work with Risk Management, Portfolio Management, Performance Management, Clients, Investment Operations, 3rd party consultants and external auditors to support a wide range of production related issues.
  • Liaison with all front office departments to identify data requirements and appropriate data source(s) to meet the need. Collaborate among internal teams to introduce\create and maintain standard taxonomies for critical enterprise-wide data such as asset classifications and quality ratings.
  • Provides data governance and ensures data integrity by coordinating data management efforts across the organization
  • Build and maintain data policy and procedures, mentor IT teams to create application data standards and ensure that data rules, data validations and standards are properly integrated and maintained in IT applications
  • Work with development team to develop master and reference data architecture and integration processes to ensure consistent data across applications
  • Ability to analyze complex data issues, understand requirements, review data analysis, make recommendations, and facilitate group discussions with stakeholders to syndicate proposed solutions
  • Perform high-quality data test functions, develop test plans and cases, review testing results with teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of the data to meet requirements
  • Manage resource allocation, develop project plans and status report, and manage project executions


Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in building Data Management program and process, data quality tools, data profiling, data catalog, data architecture, data quality metrics and monitoring, and operation process
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems and find solutions. Detail-oriented with an analytical mind and problem-solving skills to data analysis
  • Ability to deal with multiple complex data issues across data areas, identify and articulate resolutions, and facilitate business discussions to reach solutions
  • Ability to define and document formal business requirements and complex business process diagrams
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries and procedures to analyze data and develop test scripts
  • Excellent Excel skills to perform complex data analysis using Excel functionality (e.g., macros, formulas)
  • Strong communication, organization, and business documentation skills
  • Experience in developing test plan, test case, and data testing process automation
  • Experience in master and reference data models and integration with applications
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization
  • Experience in project management and Jira
  • Working knowledge of Tableau or other Power BI report tool (preferred)


Education and Experience:

  • 4-6 years of experience in analyst role in data management and operation
  • MS/BS degree in Computer Science, Data Management, or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Excel skills for data analysis
  • Solid hands-on experience with complex SQL
  • Experience in data governance tool and data profiling
  • Knowledge of database architecture and design
  • Experience in Power BI (preferred) reports or Tableau
  • Experience working in the financial services industry, investment banking, or similar professional services organizations (preferred)
  • Experience using ETL is a plus, but not mandatory
  • Oracle SQL Code a plus
