The Job at a Glance
The Cannabis Analyst is responsible for assisting in the managing, implementing, administering, and maintaining of the Bank Secrecy Act ("BSA"), Anti-Money Laundering ("AML"), and Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC") Program specifically designed to ensure the Cannabis-Related Business ("CRB") program is in compliance with related laws and regulations, internal policies and procedures, and state and federal regulatory expectations. The position requires the candidate to be knowledgeable and skilled in BSA/AML/OFAC and CRB compliance and must be able to recognize, develop, and assist in the implementation of cost-effective compliance related solutions for the MRB's BSA/AML/OFAC program.
A Typical Day
Responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the CRB's compliance of BSA/AML/OFAC administration functions, including the following:
- Stays current with regulatory requirements regarding MRB and BSA/AML/OFAC compliance to determine the effect on CU1 policies, procedures, and practices, and makes recommendations and implements changes under the guidance of the Cannabis Supervisor to increase compliance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Works closely with the CRB Relationship Managers on all BSA/AML/OFAC related topics daily to ensure the compliance program is consistent with current industry best practices, regulatory guidance, and requirements.
- Assists and prepares all required regulatory reporting, ensuring that it is conducted in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner, including the filing of Currency Transaction Reports ("CTRs"), Suspicious Activity Reports ("SARs"), FinCEN 314(a) and 314(b) procedures and reporting.
- Assist with reviews, edits, and analysis of daily reportable cash transaction activity and complete CTRs, ensuring timely and accurate information is reported.
- Assists with maintenance and periodic reviews of written policies and procedures necessary to ensure the CRB's Program is compliant with BSA/AML/OFAC compliance.
- Assist in the enhancement, development, implementation, and administration of the BSA/AML/OFAC monitoring systems to ensure that appropriate parameters are in place to identify suspicious and/or fraudulent activity.
- Assists the Cannabis Supervisor to maintain an effective Customer Due Diligence ("CDD")/Enhanced Due Diligence ("EDD") risk rating and monitoring program on all CRB accounts to include initial and ongoing risk assessments, and review and analysis of unusual/suspicious account activity.
- Assists the Cannabis Supervisor to establish and maintain appropriate SAR investigations, review and reporting processes that promote consistent decision; adequate investigations and research; and detailed documentation. Files SARs, as necessary.
- Assists with the review of all new customer portfolios/accounts to ensure all CIP, customer due diligence and Beneficial Ownership information and documentation has been obtained; assist in communicating with CRB Relationship Manager to assure that missing items are received.
- Assists with the review of exempt account activity; monitor CTRs and monetary instrument forms, maintains complete and accurate records of reviews.
- Assists with the CRB's BSA/AML/OFAC risk assessments annually or as needed with consideration to products, services, customers, and geographies that may present BSA/AML/OFAC related risks.
- Assist Cannabis Supervisor with preparation and responses for Federal and State examinations, internal and external audits. Assists with implementing corrective action of all related compliance deficiencies or violations.
- Perform other CRB Program BSA/AML/OFAC tasks as assigned.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field or specialized compliance education/training preferred.
- Minimum of (4) years working with BSA compliance or related experience required.
- Strong understanding of financial institutions deposit operations, lending activities and other related consumer banking and compliance functions.
- Consumer compliance knowledge and/or experience preferred.
- Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS) or equivalent, required.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMs) required.
Special Requirements:
- Travel (approx. 20-40% of time)
- After and Weekend Hours (as needed by CRB Clients)
