Job Summary

City Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced Manager of Building Security to oversee the physical security aspects of all school buildings within our district. This position is crucial for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in security management, with a focus on educational settings. This role is distinct from emergency management roles, as it emphasizes the daily security operations, access control, surveillance, and coordination with local law enforcement agencies.

 Essential Functions

  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive security programs for all school buildings, focusing on preventing unauthorized access and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and assets.
  • Manage and maintain security infrastructure, including CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control systems, and other physical security measures.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits of all educational facilities to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services to develop joint security measures and protocols.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to building security, including visitor management, key control, and after-hours access.
  • Train and supervise security personnel, ensuring they are adequately prepared to handle daily security operations and any potential security incidents.
  • Collaborate with the district's administration to ensure that security measures align with educational goals and legal requirements.
  • Manage the security budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and procurement of necessary security equipment and services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all security-related issues within the school district.
  • Stay informed of the latest security trends, technologies, and best practices in educational security.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
  • Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and the professional standards.

 Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in security management, preferably in an educational or similar setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical security systems and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and best practices related to security in K12 educational environments.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including school administrators, law enforcement, and community organizations.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive security programs.

  • Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and Power Point.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.
