POSITION SUMMARY:

Shift:FLEXIBLE

Under the general direction of the Security Manager, the Security Officer protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises and patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. Secures, unlocks and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of the hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Participate in performance improvement activities.

CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and the hospital. Works with supervisor/manager and other members of section or department to promote a harmonious work environment. Ensures that all contacts with patients, the public, physicians and other hospital personnel are carried out in a friendly, courteous, helpful and considerate manner. Answers telephones in a prompt and courteous manner. Displays concern and provides assistance or explains procedures as appropriate to callers or in face-to-face situations. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Works with customers to identify problem areas and recommend solutions.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols preferred. 
  • Ability to obtain state-required security officer credentials, as needed.
  • Ability to perform duties independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations.
  • Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations involving death, multiple patients, family members, etc.
  • Ability to be honest, alert, and well-disciplined.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience: Two to five (2-5) years of experience in the field of law enforcement, security operations, or a related field is required. Experience in a health care setting is preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: A current Basic Life Support (CPR) American Red Cross or American Heart Association Provider certification or a CPI certification is preferred.

  • Other: Must be able to successfully clear a background check, including a criminal search. Use or possession of a firearm and/or other weapons is prohibited
