Job Title: Special Security Officer Location: Eglin AFB, FL (On-Site) Canvas is seeking a Special Security Officer join our team supporting the 96 Test Wing at Eglin AFB, FL. The SSO provides critical advice and assistance in Personnel Security Management, focusing on the implementation of DoD, USAF, DIA, and MAJCOM policies and directives for security data, potential vulnerabilities, and manages the processing of security clearances in the SAP environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with PERSEC within the Department of Defense. Duties: Personnel Security (PERSEC): Analyze personnel security data, identifying trends, potential vulnerabilities, and areas for improvement in the SAP environment. Conduct periodic evaluations of personnel, utilizing data to support continuous monitoring and risk assessment for security compliance. Assist in managing and processing personnel security clearances for individuals requiring access to SAP information, including Pre-Screening Questionnaires (PSQ) and the necessary background investigations. Maintain accurate and comprehensive personnel security records, ensuring compliance with government standards, guidelines, and SAP requirements. Conduct security briefings for personnel, explaining their roles and responsibilities within the SAP environment and emphasizing the importance of protecting classified information. Conduct periodic evaluations of personnel to ensure ongoing compliance with SAP security protocols and assist with the continuous evaluation program. Assist in the preparation and submission of personnel security-related reports, including self-inspection checklists, incident reports, and compliance documentation. Access Control: Manage personnel access rosters, ensuring that only appropriately cleared and authorized individuals are granted access to classified information or SAP facilities, identifying any inconsistencies or potential security risks. Oversee the SAP nomination process, evaluating the suitability of personnel for access to specific programs and submitting nominations for approval. Physical Security (Limited Scope): Provide limited support for physical security operations within SAP facilities, including maintaining fixed facility checklists and conducting basic inspections. Assist with the development and implementation of emergency response plans for SAP facilities, ensuring adherence to established security protocols. Incident Reporting and Investigations: Assist in monitoring for potential security incidents involving personnel and report findings to the Program Security Officer (PSO) or other security authorities. Aid in investigations related to security breaches, violations, or other incidents concerning personnel or facility access. Coordination and Support: Work closely with the Program Security Officer (PSO), physical security, and information security teams to ensure comprehensive security support within the SAP environment. Participate in security meetings, conferences, and training sessions to stay current on SAP security requirements and procedures. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline. 3 years of relevant experience desired. Security Certifications: Obtain the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) and Special Program Security Certification (SPSC) within two years of employment if not already certified. Additional security-related certifications may be required based on program needs. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret security data and provide actionable insights. Experience working in personnel security (PERSEC) within a Special Access Program (SAP) environment desired. Familiarity with government regulations, policies, and procedures related to SAP personnel security desired. Basic knowledge of physical security operations, especially in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) desired. Security Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
