Manages and enhances a planned giving program that is focused on securing gifts through trusts, annuities, and testamentary giving to meet organizational goals. Builds a multi-year strategic plan and set priorities for FIU that best serves the growing number of centralized and unit-based fundraising staff and Alumni Association. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits major and principal level outright and deferred gift prospects independently and in partnership with colleagues from across the University. Oversees marketing initiatives for deferred and outright gifting techniques to various internal and external audiences. The position works with all areas of the University in coordination with University and Foundation leadership. Responsibilities

Plans and directs all aspects of Planned Giving Programs. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits prospective individual donors achieving and surpassing established annual fundraising metrics. Provides technical expertise in planned giving to current and prospective donors and University and Foundation partners regarding the tax and financial aspects and consequences of various planned giving programs. Provides guidance and expertise to colleges/schools/units planned giving programs while collaborating with colleagues and college/school/unit representatives to devise an annual operating plan and conduct regular and periodic meetings to update on progress with Deans, program leads and senior staff, in consultation with the VP for Development. Negotiates, closes, and finalizes the terms of new gifts with the advice and input of development and administrative colleagues at the colleges/schools and units. Advises college/school/unit representatives regarding planned gift marketing materials including mailings, special appeals, annual fund tag lines, and magazine advertisements. Conducts presentations to alumni and friends. Assists in the preparation of proposals to prospective donors. Utilizes planned giving software to prepare proposals. Works closely with the supervisor and University colleagues to prepare and finalize gift terms. Attends all development meetings as required. Plans, coordinates, and/or supports planned giving seminars for prospects, donors, advisors, faculty, administrators, and development staff on planned giving topics. Coordinates the Planned Giving Office newsletter(s) and website. Coordinates communications from the colleges/schools/units. Provides follow-up to prospect and college/school/unit inquiries and assists in preparing proposals as needed. Conducts follow-up appointments. Interprets and implements policies and procedures as they apply to an assigned area. May recommend changes on policy and procedures as necessary. May supervise staff. Meets with Miami/South Florida based estate planning attorneys to discuss opportunities for partnership at FIU. Attends Miami based Estate Planning Council/Planned Giving Council events. Provides advice on sponsorships or ad placement in Chamber/Council programs with reach to other advisors. Tracks call reports and interaction with donors and prospects in donor database. Provides quarterly and annual report of progress to supervisor. Participates in on-campus and off-campus events/activities outside of normal business hours as appropriate for the purpose of donor qualification, cultivation and stewardship. Participates in division-wide and university-wide events, committees, and project teams to advance priority projects of the University. Keeps abreast of new laws and rules related to planned gifts. Supervises Planned Giving staff. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and twelve (12) years of experience and seven (7) years of experience in gift planning fundraising program implementation and management. Must have supervisory/management experience. Desired Qualifications

Possess initiative, self-starting capacities and goal-oriented motivation. Ability to relate in a multifaceted fundraising environment, participating and contributing to a full team effort. Must demonstrate a high level of integrity, trust and the ability to build strong partnerships across the institution, with a sense of urgency and clear set of priorities. Comprehensive understanding of planned giving vehicles (e.g., bequests, charitable trusts, annuities). Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree preferred. Strong strategic thinking skills to achieve both short-term and long-term goals and increase results year-over-year. Experience with face-to-face personal solicitations in a higher education or non-profit setting. Job Category
