WOOSTER COMMUNITY HOSPITAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Security Officer

MAIN FUNCTION:

Maintains post and patrols as assigned. Guards against unauthorized entry and unlawful acts. Enforces employee and visitor identification and control procedures. Participates in codes, disaster, fire and other safety related events. Carries out other specific duties as assigned. Is a resource trained for any emergency.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Security, Lead Security Officer

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED

Prior security experience.

Valid Ohio driver’s license.

Must be insurable and meet expectations of Wooster Community Hospital to drive Hospital Vehicles.

Completion of the WCH Orientation which includes ALICE and Verbal Judo training.

IAHSS Basic CHSO (Certified Healthcare Security Officer) within 6 months and maintained.

BLS certification within 12 months and maintained.

Basic computer skills

Has appropriate interpersonal skills.

No written disciplinary action within the last 12 months.

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

Healthcare Security Experience

Knowledge of DNV/CMS requirements as it relates to Safety and Security

Law enforcement experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Employee in this position may be exposed to blood, body fluids and/or airborne pathogens and is required to wear barriers.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

Is knowledgeable of WCH emergency procedures ie. fire, disaster, hazardous materials, etc.

Makes required interior/exterior rounds per shift.

Promptly investigates and reports any breach of security (destruction of property, vandalism, theft, unauthorized access, safety violations).

Responds when requested to escort or aid WCH personnel as needed. Patrols parking lots and is visible during shift change.

Lends assistance to visitors/patients as requested, greets customers and offers assistance with directions always acting under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor, Security Officer Lead and/or Security Director.

Questions suspicious actions or activities. Approaches "hall roamers" or lost customer and lends assistance.

If an injured person would be discovered in the parking lot or other area, calls for help and stays with victim until assistance responds.

Is a resource available to assist in emergency situations.

Notifies Nursing Supervisor, Security Officer Lead and/or Security Director of any abnormal activity immediately. Notifies police as required during emergencies or when unlawful acts are committed.

Recognizes the potential for problems such as workplace violence or other safety related concerns. Attempts to diffuse or offer assistance. Keeps nursing supervision informed.

Always remains flexible and appropriately responds to the circumstances.

Other duties as assigned.
