Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

As a Phlebotomist, you will obtain quality blood samples using various phlebotomy methods, including capillary, venous, assisted line, and arterial collections, adhering strictly to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. You will work primarily between two hospital campuses in general patient care areas, including pediatrics, and provide phlebotomy support services to the Intensive Care Units and the Operating Room. Responsibilities include accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, handling and transportation, and specimen testing using Point of Care equipment. You must be proficient with a variety of computer programs/systems and maintain patient confidentiality. This role requires excellent customer relations and communication skills to interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring high customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain quality blood samples using various phlebotomy methods.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements and collection procedures.
  • Work in general patient care areas, including pediatrics.
  • Provide phlebotomy support to Intensive Care Units and the Operating Room.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
  • Handle and transport specimens accurately.
  • Perform specimen testing using Point of Care equipment.
  • Utilize various computer programs/systems.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Exhibit good customer relations and communication skills.
  • Interact professionally with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate skills in coping, understanding, following instructions, organization, prioritization, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision making.
Essential Skills

  • Medical Laboratory Testing
  • Proficiency with various computer programs/systems
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of a phlebotomy training program with clinical rotation or 3 months of phlebotomy experience
  • Certification as MLT/MT/Phlebotomist (e.g., NHA, ASCP)
  • Ability to work independently and with multiple team members
Work Environment

This position offers various shifts: NIGHTS (Sunday night to Friday morning, no weekends) with two contracts available: 10:00 pm - 6:30 am (8hrs) or 10:00 pm - 8:30 am (10hrs), and DAYS (Monday to Friday, no weekends) with five contracts available: 4:00 am - 2:30 pm (10hrs) or 6:00 am - 2:30 pm (8hrs). The position is located at St Mary's Lab Services. The role typically involves a 3-month open-ended contract with the intention to extend and potentially transition to a permanent position if the candidate is a good fit for the organization. Candidates should not worry about the contract ending unless there are performance issues.

Pay Rate: $24-28/hr
