Job Summary
The Account Outreach Phlebotomist will be placed at a healthcare provider’s clinic to perform phlebotomy for laboratory testing, adhering to established blood collection standards and practices. This position involves direct patient interaction, collaborating with the laboratory team, and ensuring the integrity of specimens, testing, and documentation. The phlebotomist will focus on ensuring client satisfaction, identifying new business opportunities, and working closely with internal teams to meet client needs. A positive, professional attitude is essential to maintain strong relationships and uphold the organization’s reputation.
Workdays are Monday to Friday, with shifts typically lasting 8 hours and aligning with the clinic’s operating hours.
Qualifications:- Certification: Must be certified to perform phlebotomy (e.g., through ASCP, NPA, or equivalent).
- Experience: At least 2 years of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or healthcare setting.
- Preferred Experience: Previous experience in providing customer service in a medical setting. Knowledge of medical billing and coding is a plus.
- Ensure overall client satisfaction by providing friendly, efficient, and professional service to healthcare provider staff and patients.
- Address patient concerns and ensure a positive experience, acting as the representative of the clinic in the phlebotomy area.
- Obtain and prepare blood specimens for transport to the laboratory, ensuring safety, quality standards, and proper handling.
- Follow strict aseptic techniques to minimize risk and ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Submit online test orders and complete paper requisitions as needed.
- Accurately enter patient demographics, insurance information, and other required details into the laboratory portal.
- Organize and manage incoming test results, ensuring proper documentation.
- Communicate with healthcare provider staff to collect complete and accurate information such as diagnosis codes, insurance details, and other necessary data.
- Serve as a liaison between healthcare providers, laboratory staff, and internal teams to ensure a seamless service experience for patients.
- Provide patients with a brief explanation of the outreach laboratory program and available billing options.
- Collect patient payments as required and assist with billing-related inquiries.
- Ensure timely transport and delivery of collected specimens to the appropriate laboratory or designated driver.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, ensuring patient confidentiality and compliance with privacy policies.
- Accurately manage and maintain patient medical records, following confidentiality and documentation standards.
- Adhere to infection control standards and safety protocols to maintain a clean, safe environment for patients and staff.
- Properly handle phlebotomy equipment and materials to prevent accidents or contamination.
- Address procedural issues and resolve emergent situations independently using good judgment.
- Demonstrate multitasking and triage skills to handle competing priorities effectively.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and attend relevant in-service training or team meetings.
- Work closely with internal teams, including the Regional Account Manager, on laboratory projects and tasks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the outreach laboratory program and ensure excellent patient care.

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with patients, healthcare staff, and internal teams. - Customer-Focused:
Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism and provide outstanding customer service as a visible representative of the clinic. - Phlebotomy Expertise:
Proficient in performing phlebotomy procedures with a solid understanding of equipment and techniques to ensure accurate blood draws. - Attention to Detail:
Excellent organizational skills to manage patient information, test orders, and documentation accurately. - Physical Dexterity & Mobility:
Fine motor skills, good visual acuity, and the ability to move around the clinic and use phlebotomy equipment as required.
- Primary Environment:
Indoors, within the designated phlebotomy space at the healthcare provider’s clinic. Occasional travel may be required for specimen transport.
- Physical Exposure:
Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, biohazardous specimens, sharps, and electrical hazards. Occasional prolonged standing, bending, and lifting (up to 20 lbs) may be required. - Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and using phlebotomy equipment. The role requires good hand-eye coordination, repetitive motion tasks, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
