The Tournament Director is the heartbeat of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Without an outstanding team of Tournament Directors to plan and operate successful events each week, we don’t have a junior golf tour.
Tournament Directors are charged with representing and carrying out the HJGT mission:
Provide fun tournament experiences for today’s junior golfer, grow the game through friendly competition on championship courses, and inspire families to create lifelong memories.
Position Brief
The purpose of the Tournament Director is to develop and manage junior golf events to achieve HJGT’s mission, goals, and objectives within the constraints of the event’s scope, timing, and budget.
HJGT is looking for a professional, enthusiastic Tournament Director to produce up to 45 annual junior golf events from conception through to completion. Tournament Director responsibilities include providing outstanding customer service and organizing memorable events that meet quality expectations.
Responsibilities
The Tournament Director coordinates all aspects of junior golf tournament operations, including event planning, event promotion, course set-up, rules officiating, scorecards, groupings and starting times, event staff training, event reporting and event wrap up.
The position coordinates with head golf professionals, assistant golf professionals, golf course superintendents, rules officials, title sponsors, tournament partners, and HJGT management.
Specific job responsibilities include:
Planning, design and production of up to 45 annual junior golf events while managing all project delivery elements within time limits.
Interacting with HJGT customers (junior golfers & parents) to identify needs and to ensure customer satisfaction.
Providing feedback and periodic reports to key stakeholders.
Monitoring revenue and expenses to ensure budget goals are met.
Proposing ideas to improve customer experience and event quality.
Organizing and managing event logistics such as transportation, equipment, tournament set-up/tear-down, course set-up, start-time groupings, monitoring local weather, promotional material, and more.
Ensuring compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations.
Specifying event staff/intern requirements and coordinating their activities.
Cooperating with HJGT business development & marketing personnel to promote and publicize each event.
Proactively handling any arising issues and troubleshooting any emerging problems on the event day.
Conducting post-event evaluations/surveys and reporting on outcomes.
Researching market, identifying event opportunities and generating interest.
Coordinating the collection of content for social media/branding purposes.
Distributing HJGT memorabilia and information regarding membership benefits, future tournament registrations and promotional items.
Serving as a brand ambassador for HJGT official partners and event sponsors.
Requirements and Skills
Experience in tournament operations and/or events planning.
2-4 years’ managerial experience.
Excellent time management and business communication skills.
Consultative sales skills and ability to build productive business relationships.
Unwavering commitment to ensuring a positive customer experience.
Ambitious and optimistic personality with strong persuasion skills.
Excellent leader and motivator.
Adaptable problem-solver who handles unanticipated issues with collaboration, objectivity, and a positive attitude.
Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
Degree in Event Planning, Event Management, Sports Management, or related fields.
Passion for growing the game and strong understanding of Rules of Golf.
MS Office proficiency, will be trained in Tournament Software.
Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
Willing and able to work 50-55 hours per week, & travel 3 nights per week with other staff members.
Willing to travel by airplane.
Valid, clean driver’s license and willingness to operate company vehicle.
Tournament Director Compensation & Benefits
The Tournament Director is expected to earn between $40,000 to $55,000 annually.

About the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) was founded in 2007 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 8-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment. The tour’s vision is to provide superb hospitality and make every event a memorable one. With play open to both males and females, nearly every junior golfer is eligible to participate on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Currently the HJGT is the largest junior golf tour in the United States hosting more 2-day nationally ranked events than any other tour. The HJGT has been able to achieve this goal by running the most professional events and providing an exceptional value to all of our players and families over the last 15 years.
Based out of Orlando, FL, the HJGT administers events all across the country. In 2022, the HJGT will conduct events in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. Juniors will compete in 1 of 6 divisions which are: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15, Boys 11-13, Boys under 10, Girls 14-18, and Girls Under 13.
