POSITION SUMMARY:

Accurately and appropriately identify patients prior to all processes. Ability to perform under high stress while responding to Code Blues, RRTs, and Traumas. Work at fast pace in the emergency room and inpatient settings while collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients with accuracy. Prepares patients for and performs venous, capillary, and instruct patients on post collection follow-up. A Resource throughout the facility to assist nurses and coworkers with specimen collections for critical and non-critical patients. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a phlebotomy course and/or one year of phlebotomy experience. Must provide copy of diploma/degree for highest level of education obtained.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

CPR Certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required. Ability to communicate clearly and calmly in English both verbally and in writing with patients, medical staff and the public.
