Overview:

This is a Full-Time FT80 Varied Night Shift position with 10 Hour Shifts. 7:30pm-6am

The Phlebotomist draws blood following established departmental procedures in a safe manner with minimal trauma to patient.: Verifies patient identification by using two patient identifiers: Name, DOB or Medical Record Number. Labels all specimens in front of patient with required information, Allscripts ID, date and time of collection. Compliant with all safety standards and utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Understands and applies knowledge of test specimen requirements and utilizes available reference materials to ensure that all specimens are collected correctly. Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate healthcare provider and notifying fellow staff and/or a Laboratory Supervisor, Director, or Manager of unresolved orders.



Responsibilities:
  • Blood is drawn according to established departmental procedures in a safe manner with minimum trauma to the patient. Monitors for adverse effects of blood draws.
  • Verifies patient identification by using two patient identifiers: Name, DOB or Medical Record Number. Never identifies patient by room number. Labels all specimens in front of patient with required information, Allscripts ID, date and time of collection.
  • Obtains Blood samples from all age ranges including newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Provide instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory procedures to students and employees.
  • Compliant with all safety standards and utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Follows and reviews general laboratory, safety, and department policies and procedures.
  • Understands and applies knowledge of test specimen requirements and utilizes available reference materials to ensure that all specimens are collected correctly by staff. Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate healthcare provider and notifying fellow staff and/or a Laboratory Supervisor, Director, or Manager of unresolved orders.

  • Helps monitor inventory/supplies and informs Supervisor when ordering is needed.


Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent. BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.
